Description:

Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best...

Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best outdoor market - proudly operated by the City of Hobart - every Saturday from 8:30am to 3:00pm at Hobart's Salamanca Place.

Set between graceful plane trees and the mellow sandstone facades of historic warehouses, Hobart's famous market at Salamanca Place attracts thousands of locals and visitors, every Saturday of the year.

They come to visit more than 300 stalls for the food and music, fresh fruit, crisp organic vegetables, hot baked spuds, the warm aroma of a coffee and croissant, buskers singing the blues, stroking a harp or strumming a lively folk song.

They come for breakfast, scrambled eggs and orange juice at a Salamanca cafe, then a stroll along the hundreds of stalls, meeting friendly people who make or grow what they sell.

Salamanca Market highlights fine Tasmanian art & craft including hand-worked glass, innovative design in Tasmanian timbers, stylish clothing and bold ceramics.

Salamanca Market is close to historic St David's Park on the fringe of Hobart's central business district. From the market, it's a short climb up Kelly's Steps to reach the Georgian cottages and the village atmosphere of Battery Point.

Hobart's picturesque waterfront is also nearby - cross Salamanca lawns to the docks, where hard-working fishing boats are berthed close to cruising yachts and a square-rigger or two.

We go to the markets each time we attend Tasmania. It is very spread out and a lot of walking required. It offers a variety of goods for most requirements and a wide array of foods and wines available

If you can't find it at Salamanca markets you didn't look hard enough!! Lots of local produce and products. Be prepared for the crowds but always worth a wander.

A must do in Hobart. Fabulous market, but don't have breakfast before you go. Plenty of great food to eat!

Whilst in Hobart in Jan 17, we were lucky to be here on a Saturday as the Salamanca Markets are only run on Saturday. Great place to find locally made products and produce with just about everything you could imagine.

I love this huge Saturday market. There is quality, local produce; delicious truck food of all varieties; clothing, leather goods; ugg boots; crafts; soaps; plants; flowers; artwork; confectionary; antique wares and jewellery, to name a few! Perfectly situated in the historic Salamanca area of Hobart surrounded by cafes, eateries and artisan galleries. Always bustling and full of atmosphere. A must... More

Great amount and variety of stalls! Lots of food options! Love it! Came years ago with my partner and loved it, came back 12 years later with kids and still as good! Lots of unique items and set in an amazing location! Won't wait 12 years again!

What a great morning of getting lost for a few hours, enjoying the smells, sights and sounds of the market. We picked up quite a few knick-knacks and filled our stomachs with amazing food. A lot of the stall holders have Eftpos facilities, but it is a good idea to have cash on hand.

I found lots of things I had never seen before, so I did my shopping for birthday presents for all of those 'hard to buy for' family and friends! Really enjoyed the day, but market is so big, we did not get around to all of the stalls. Market food was varied and excellent...and as usual, the best stalls had... More
