Went to the Museum today and found it very interesting. If you can park in their carpark it is very easy to get into

The Old Bond Store section of museum has a wonderful display of Tasmanian history. The other sections of museum and gallery are spacious and well set out. A lovely gift shop and good coffee shop. Helpful staff.

Firstly, this museum is free, donation requested. Taking photos is OK too. This is a modern, family friendly establishment with things laid out in an interesting way with plenty of interactive displays. In fact the building itself is part of the display. There is an area for the juniors. They seem to have a program of frequently changing displays. There... More

We dropped by expecting to encounter an old fashioned museum full of Victoriana, but we're pleasantly surprised by the effort that has gone into making the displays approachable. Good Antarctic exhibition as well as some moving imagery of the last Tasmanian 'tigers'. Nice cafeteria with friendly service.

Do you miss those museums where you can actually look at things? Well this place has it all, including stuffed animals and birds, and it is all free. We visited on a rainy Friday afternoon in January. The place was packed with other tourists looking for an indoor activity. There were comprehensive displays on Tasmanian aborigines, fauna and the 1967... More

A visit here brings back he fun of discovery that many other museums no longer have. The collection includes zoology (great information on the Tasmanian Tiger and other native animals), minerals, plants, aquatic sciences, Tasmanian and aboriginal history and culture and the Antarctic. The special exhibition, One Hell of an Inferno, (1967 Tasmanian bushfires) the is one of the best... More
