Wonderful museum with great art and history
This place is everything you could want in a museum. Heaps of detailed history into the natural wildlife of Tasmania, as well as some very interesting art pieces that explore other events including the convict past. Their is no entry fee but a donation is offered and fair as this place is incredibly important for preservation and future generational understanding.

Wonderful Museum & works of art.
Wonderful Museum & although our time was limited, we really appreciated all the work that has been put into the "Twist" exhibition & very though provocing works of art. We were particularly touched by the works by Ursula Halpin & Bern Emmerichs. All the staff we spoke to were very friendly & informative & our grandson loved the children's gallery.

    Allow more time to view
Really enjoyed our visit. Underestimated what was available to view. Good displays, well laid out. Excellent exhibits on indigenous culture plus fauna and flora. Hints : take your time, allow more time. A lot to absorb but it's definitely worth it

Good mixture of art and history
Well worth a visit and excellent variety of displays of art old and new, historical Tasmanian information, great indigenous culture/history displays all wrapped up in some wonderful old buildings. Cafe and shop onsite too. Very atmospheric a gallery with character, would recommend and give yourself at least a couple hours.

    Brilliant Museum and Art Gallery
Our family really enjoyed our visit to this museum and art gallery. There was just about the right mix of art and museum in a very beautiful old historic building. The cafe is also a great plus for weary tourists. There was a fantastic exhibition on of Lloyd Rees from his early to late works. Such a beautiful talented artist. We were very fortunate to see it s we didn't know it was on. Our grandchildren also learned a lot about the history of Tasmania and were very interested making connections as we toured around. It is really well curated for both adults and children. Top marks!

This place was nice but when my daughter went to the bathroom she came out screaming saying “ monkey in the stall! There’s a monkey in the stall!” When we told a worker she told us we were crazy and banned us for life. Great place, 100% recommend!

Well presented, with some interactive exhibits. A very detailed and interesting Antarctica exhibit. Being Tasmania Museum a very detailed Thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) exhibit.

Great ground floor exhibition on the history of aboriginal peoples in Tasmania, but not much in the way of aboriginal art. Excellent fauna exhibits and information.

It is very rude and unprofessional to require visitors to store the bags (within the 30cm) that comply with the entry requirements, and after raising mild questions, the reception very impatient to say either accept it or leave. But white people with heavy backpacks did not ask to be saved. so disappointed, Feel disrespectful and racist and very unwelcome.

A well laid out museum with galleries about the Aboriginies, Antarctic exhibitions as well as Australia animals and birds. We arrived on the first day of the Epoch exhibition which was interesting.

Wow...loved this museum and art gallery. Great history raising awareness of Australia's appalling treatment of its First Nations peoples and convicts. Loved seeing the Tasmanian Tiger, mind-blowing art displays in a building that will turn 200 years old in 2024.
