We stopped in for about an hour (too short a time, but we were limited). The museum has actual mementos from the last century in various displays. The arrangement is excellent and "flows." There is an abundance of miniature models of ships (many in bottles) along with lots of narrative. Many people must have a love of the sea to... More

I greatly enjoyed the permanent exhibitions in this museum (the first floor), a subject which I feel is important in understanding Hobart's and Tasmania's history since maritime history is so important in their history. I would personally allow a couple of hours to go through the first floor exhibitions. It is roughly chronological, including pockets of thematic mini-exhibitions within that.... More

What a great Maritime Museum. We thought that nothing would rival San Francisco's but this place does. Allow a couple of hours!

I was really hoping to come here and learn all about the Sydney to Hobart yacht race, but there's one tiny little section for it. There's alot about the war here and it's all ship related.I guess I was hoping for something a little more

On our first day in Hobart, as we love wandering around to get the feel of the place, we came across this museum which immediately drew our attention to look through. We were not disappointed. Greeted by friendly and courteous volunteers in the lobby, we immediately felt at ease and desire to look through its exhibits. Anyone who is interested... More

My partner and I visited this museum at the last minute. I particularly liked the war display that was on at the time but the whole museum was fascinating for us. If you are not into maritime history then it probably isn't for you.

We were greated by very friendly staff. The space, although small, was very well laid out. We could ring some ships bells, and there was some wonderful old footage. Some special objects donated or loaned, i am honoured to have seen. I learnt a lot. If i were to change anything i would have a bit more on the sydney... More
