As part of exploring Australia's convict history, this museum is very important, focusing on the fates of women and children. The interpretation by the staff was very moving. There's not much to see as various attempts over the years to erase or ignore this facility have removed much of the infrastructure, but this makes the impact more effective.

This was on our list to visit whilst in Hobart. As we had two descendants that had been sent there in the 1840's it was most interesting to see how they would have survived such horrific living conditions. You have a choice to walk around yourself, a Heritage Tour with a guide (about 45 mins) and Her Story which is... More

This historic site is well-worth a visit (don't just go to Port Arthur). It's full of interesting information.

To understand this attraction you must book a tour, or even better the "Her Story" by Live History. This was great fun and very very informing. The actors brought history to life so much so we felt emotionally moved. It was interactive and helped you to understand some of the history on a personally level.

Interesting place to visit to get a feel for some of Hobart's early convict history, hard life for woman and children in those days. Worth taking the guided tour, the guides very knowledgable and happy to help.

Recommend the guided tour to get the most out of a visit. Highlighted the harsh history for convict women and their children in early tassie. Staff helpful and knowledgeable

This is an important historical site and worth seeing while in Hobart. The general entry fee is small and while we were short of time, the tour looks like it would have been very interesting. Just wandering around is quite moving, reading the stories of some of the women, their 'crimes' (usually very petty) and how they lived. The cottage... More

Go and learn more about the life of a female convict. The tour is worth the price. The history speaks for itself.
