This railway experience does not pretend to be anything other than what it is - a great trip on a rustic former industry related railway through beautiful bushland, then following the lovely shoreline of Ida Bay and terminating at the pristine white sands of Deephole Bay. I chose to sit in the open air carriage, as it was a fabulous... More

We decided to take the Ida Railway and combine the Southport Lagoon walk and take a later train back. The walk was hard with the three kids, but rewarding when we got to the lagoon. Lance, our train driver was very accommodating and informative too. A great day out in the Far South.

Clunk clunk, clank clank through the bush from Ida Bay to Elliot Beach some 7 kms to the east. 45 minute trip each way, with a 20 minute stop at the beach. Some nice views of Major Honors Bay otherwise a bit boring. A commentary would have been nice, giving some info on the history of the various places we... More

My great grandfather was one of the prominent foresters of the Esperance region in the late 19th Century so I was very interested to take this train trip and hear a little about the history of the railway and its surrounding area. The train trip was, as to be expected, rustic but the history was about 3 minutes worth of... More

We thought that a narrow gauge railway might be better for kids but that is not so. We were fortunate enough to be there in wild flower season and the flowers were well and truly out. A short history lesson made the trip interesting but the flowers and coastline were best

We saw this attraction in the local guides so made the effect to get there and we are glad we did, the young train driver was new to the job and was learning his history of the area and even though he was not totally up to date he was still keen to past on his knowledge. Train was due... More

Its more rustic than the West Coast Wilderness Railway but still very enjoyable, much cheaper, great native scenery and beatiful beaches. There's a carriage with open sided and a closed carriage if it starts to rain. The cafe was preetty good too.

Very quant 2 hour trip down a small rail track. We visited in December with all the wild flowers on show. What a delight.must say its a novelty trip but worth doing whilst down in that area. The train driver very informative and gave a great history of the area with laughter included!!!

What a great ride! Really enjoyed the scenery. Great guide/driver with good humor. The blankets provided is a nice way to keep warm as it can be windy. Can highly recommend it on your visit to this area.

We were so excited to be going on the Ida Bay railway. The brochures looked great and the little diesel train looked so cute when we arrived. My father and I both enjoyed the 1.5 hour round trip. What we didn't enjoy was the poor commentary from the uninspiring train driver. He said no more than two sentences before we... More
