We had a 14-year-old do our tour and he was brilliant. He gave our kids a turn on the electric hoist/swing and let them use the jackhammer. They loved it and would rate it 10/10 but they are mining nuts. Good way to learn about how mines operate

We went to have the guided tour but were told that we would not be one as planned due to lack of participants. The self guiding tour is uninteresting and definitely not worth the money. After we saw that many other people turned up and were told no guided tour. I think the owners try to get away with doing... More

By far the best activity the kids participated in at Coober Pedy. Our tour guide was genuine and authentic with great knowledge of current opal mining. The kids got to have a go and this is a great place to go to get a really good look around a working mine. A must do for families and anyone after a... More

We took the tour and highly recommend. Our guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic and obviously proud of the mine. Our kids loved having a go at the drill and were very excited to keep some "opals". All our questions were answered and we had a lovely time.

We visited here for a tour to find out a bit more about the town and what keeps it going. This tour was fantastic! The tour guide (we didn't get his name but probably in his early thirties) was extremely knowledgable and was happy to answer all our questions. This tour was very hands on, we got to ride up... With an obscene entrance fee to enter a non working mine (which is advertised as working) and have a 12 year old boy (assuming) doing the tour who was way out of his depth with knowledge and people skills, and not to mention false information. I wasted an hour which could have taken 10 minutes if I'd gone by myself.... More

We did the 10am tour. Myself and 11 year old son, Jack. We were the 9nly people on the tour. The shořt video before thw tour is worth a look. Definitely recommend the tour. Informative and friendly local as a guide. Hands on experience. Jack was able to operate a jack hammer and dig out a piece of rock with... More

I just dropped into this place for a tour. It was really cool, very funny people, led by real miners. Obviously because of health and safety reasons the mine is a working one but better lit and some tunnels are closed off for tourists but very interesting to see. We got to see the machinery in action and try a... More

It really is a working mine, and my tour guide actually works a mine, so he had a lot of information others didn't. We got to see opal seams and potential strikes; play with diving rods and ride a bosun chair; and explore a real mine complete with cave-ins from flooding. Far better tour than Umoona, but without the dugout—it's... More

There are a range of tours available starting at $12 for a self guided tour. We did the mini guided tour which was $20 per adult. Tour guides are very knowledgeable and it was fascinating to listen to their stories and understand the life of an opal miner. Very dusty but enjoyable. Tour is interactive with the opportunity to use... More
