- Debbie P9 contributionsGo to the Central market in AdelaideAmazing market - mostly food. Wonderfully clean with an incredible range of meats , fish, veg, fruit, pastries etc etc. Some sit down cafes too. Well worth a visitVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 October 2023
- Rackjab6it63Auckland, New Zealand46 contributionsWhat an experience for the foodie!!Popped in for a late afternoon snack and a few beers. Struggled to decide what and where to eat. Oh the choices!!!? Ended up having some pizza slices cooked in a wood fired oven. Seriously!! Fresh bread, deli meats and loads of snacks and treats. Didn’t know where to look and wished I lived in the city. You guys in Adelaide are so lucky. Loved it, highly recommended.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023
- gc gGold Coast, Australia349 contributionstotally recommend a walkthrough of this place, amazingone of the best markets I have ever been to. the array of food was amazing. every type of food is catered for including vegan. so much good food to choose from and in general, the prices are very good. not only food to take home but several places to have a meal at as well. coffee shops also and a bar. very popular place, we went during the week, I am guessing weekends are hectic.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 9 November 2023
- rob27898Port Kennedy, Australia460 contributionsNiceUltimately it’s a market but it wasn’t massively busy on a weekday even with the lunch rush. There is a good selection of food vendors and fresh produce. Probably 10 minutes from the middle of Rundle Mall and the route is sign posted. At Xmas, just look for the massive Santa. Toilets are somewhat ropey with a strange dated tat-shop filled mall on the side which looked very sad compared to the hustle of the market.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 December 2023
- Yog-SothothTrenton, Maine1,225 contributionsMust-do in AdelaideDuring our 3-4 day stint in Adelaide, we stopped at the market a couple of time to pick up groceries and to have sit-down meals. The market is easy to navigate and contains every kind of fresh and prepared food under the sun. Highlights included Sì, Sea and the falafel joint. Make this a destination when staying in the 20-minute city.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 December 2023
- Eugene L231 contributionsGreat food and beverage stalls, lives up to the hype.Really nice place. Despite the crowds, it's nice and cool compared to the heat outside. Great artisan food venues and catered well for vegans in our family. Loved the various bar venues and the artisan gins as well. Definitely worth a visit for lunch and a drink.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 December 2023
- OldjackGreater Melbourne, Australia29,374 contributionsTop Quality MarketAs markets go around Australia, Adelaide Central had a large number of suppliers of high standard, quite diverse in the product offerings and overall good quality. As good, if not better than South Melbourne and Prahran in Melbourne. Overall a good experience.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 December 2023
- Aisling FCalne, United Kingdom405 contributionsA must visit if in AdelaideI was on a work trip to Adelaide and this was recommended for our last evening and I wish that we'd been told about it before our last night. Absolutely amazing market with a huge variety of food stalls, restaurants etc. We had some gorgeous dessert after dinner in a lovely Mexican restaurant (separate review). If you're going to Adelaide, this is a definitely a place not to miss.Visited February 2023Travelled on businessWritten 1 January 2024
- Global-VillagerrDenver, Colorado360 contributionsFun But PriceyFun place to visit, with excellent food stalls. But the food is very expensive. Go and browse, have a bite to eat, enjoy the vibe. But maybe limit your purchases to special items that you cant get elsewhere at a better price.Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 10 January 2024
- HW08Port Macquarie, Australia405 contributionsGreat place to visitA visit to the Central Market in Adelaide is almost a must. The market is big, busy and sells mostly fresh fruit and veges. There is also a few seafood stands as well as other different items that you might find in markets such as nuts, dried fruit, bakery products as well as non-food items. If you want to taste South Australian oysters, they are probably cheapest here. Other seafood however seem to be quite expensive. Oysters and baked cheesecake for dinner. Yum !!Thanks so much for sharing your visit to our beautiful Market! We're pleased you discovered some of our beautiful SA produce. As our traders are often buying direct from the growers and producers prices may fluctuate depending on the season and availability but this also means you can be assured you're getting the freshest produce available. We hope to see you at the Market again soon!Written 11 June 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited April 2024Travelled soloWritten 1 June 2024

If there was only one reaqson to visit Adelaide this would be it.
Their is no reason when you are in Adelaide to miss this Market (the free bus stops outside) and you would be silly to do so.
It has a fantastic range of fresh and local produce all under the one roof (as well as a very good Asian Food hall and Market).
Cafes and Eateries abound and all the food is as fresh as the day it was picked and just as tasty.
We usually have friends around for dinner when we visit and we purchase everything from here for our dinners as well as shop for fresh produce on a daily basis.
Do yourself and your tastebuds a favor and go there.

A visit to the market was a low priority, but we needed lunch and were nearby, so wandered over. It is in the city centre, so was easily accessible. Boy, were we in for a pleasant surprise. A market in the class of Melbourne's Victoria or the Barcelona Ramblas. Seriously!
The fruit and vegetables, deli items (from a stall hung from end to end with salamis, a pate and terrine stall, a home-made turkish delight one, to freshly made fruit juices,)- all were magnificent.
We had lunch at Samtass Fish shop- amazing!!! We had oysters shucked before our eyes, followed by salta nd pepper squid. Totally terrific!
Did I say I liked it??

Spending a week in Adelaide and visited the market 3 times to eat. Not only is it good for the local to purchase their weekly fruit, veges and deserts, it also a great place to visit and enjoy a meal at any of the restaurants or china town.
Would definitely recommend to all to spend a few hours and walk through the site to take in the smells and aroma of Adelaide

Visited on Thursday 27th February and again on Friday 28th February. There is so much to see and do there, what an amazing place. On Thursday we just checked it out and then returned on Friday to have lunch there, so many choices and the food is so cheap.

Visiting Adelaide for the first time and thought we would visit the Adelaide Markets and take an organised tour.
We were lucky to have two guides, Rachel and Amelia who were both great and took us on a 90 minute journey through the markets where they shared the history and we tried many of the delights of the stall holders.
We would recommend anyone interested in the markets book a tour to get the best experience possible.

Yes they doing it up so market was smaller than usual but so costly. Grapes were $14.00 a kilo three times the cost of supermarkets and not that fresh. Everything was so expensive and if it wasn’t for China supermarket would have been a waste of petrol and time. The butchers inside the market had hardly any produce and neither had the fishmongers.
The Chinese supermarket had great pork meat at a good price.
Had to park in the street as no car parking available.

These central markets hold such a soft spot in my heart. When I'm staying in Adelaide I always manage to get there a couple of times a year.
There's so much fresh fruit and vegetables , meats, flowers, juice shops, cheese shops, bakeries, an amazing cheese shop, and plenty of little artisan shops. There's so many Boutique supermarkets, a vegan shop, natural wonders like goodies and grains and if you're there on a Friday night, you will enjoy the live music. There's Cheap, quality eats, so much culture to come and enjoy.

No visit to Adelaide should be without a trip to the markets. The choices of fresh produce is enormous and the actual take-away options are fantastic. We had fresh falafels, yummy fudge, to name a few and the Chinatown food court attached offers great variety at very reasonable prices

Have not been here for quite some time, decided to visit because of hearing all the accolades. Interesting to see all the stalls and the eateries, but found it lacking overall and overrated. The produce was overpriced and a lot we saw was really not good quality. Disappointing and won't be in a hurry to go back.

Adelaide Central Market is a cornucopia of fresh fruit and vegetables, almost everything you could want to make an unforgetable meal. It's one of the largest undercover markets in the Southern Hemisphere, with one million kilograms of produce chamging hands every month. No matter what you want, you are sure to find something worth buying at the Central Market.

Is the market open all days of the week?
Written 26 January 2019
Does Adelaide central market have stalls selling gadgets like phone charging cables etc (like Paddys market in Sydney)?
Written 9 September 2018
It’s far more oriented to fresh produce. May have a gadget stall around the outside or nearer the food court.

There are few barriers to animals entering the market. Someone could identify the control structure and explain for me how it might work ? Thank you
Written 26 August 2017
I have not see this query til today but unfortunately I am unsure what you are asking. It is the in city, we do not have animals roaming the streets so there are none entering except perhaps a stray dog which would be rare.
