Given this is not your high profile, sponsored sanctuary, I think this place does very well in the range of animals and birdlife who live here. Those people conducting tours around the place were knowledgeable and interesting to listen to, without going into too much detail and being longwinded in their explanations. They also offer a second visit free on... More

Great place to visit for half day, the whole place is open plan so you can interact directly with the creatures here. It's a great place for families as a lot of basic education as to creatures and habits and for an additional charge you can have your picture taken with one of the animals, I got my picture taken... The place needs some money spent on it, and be brought up to date. It looked very dated railings had green ants crawling all over them everywhere.

The animals and related experience were the highlight of our stay in Port Douglas for my kids (9,11) and my wife. Even over the reef which we all loved. They loved the Koala pictures with the Wallaby/Kangaroo feeding a close second. If you do go, buy your pass Day 1 -- it lasts for 5 days. Highly recommended.

Perfect place to visit with the kids. You can get a nice meal ans then stroll through the open plan wildlife habitat. You can get up close and personal with the animals , with the tame parrots happy to sit on your arm or head. All the Aussie fav's are here , Kangeroos , Koala's etc , but the birdlife... More

We loved Port Douglas for the variety of birds that we saw, unassisted, and the underwater critters we saw and touched on the Great Barrier Reef

This turned out to be one of the highlights to my Port Douglas visit. You can interact with the wallabies and even hold (and get your picture taken) with a koala. There's a Breakfast With the Birds and Lunch With the Lorakeets that puts you smack in the middle of the wildlife! Great time.

Went with teenagers and before the visit, they were like "what? Going to the zoo?", but after the visit, they were impressed with the close encounters with the animals and birds, and the pretty informative talks. Recommended even for teens and adults.
