Kuranda Scenic Railway is the original scenic rail journey to Kuranda. This spectacular

experience travels over bridges and through tunnels hand-made by North Queensland's

pioneers over 100 years ago. Traversing the World Heritage listed rainforest of the Barron

Gorge National Park, this is one of the world's great railway journeys.

Lots of history about the area, railways, how it was built and when you get on it then the views come and go. You need to be next to the window on the right as the windows are small and you won't see the views. Museum and the town itself are also interesting to see and experience

I visited the scenic railway last week with my partner and some family. It was a relaxing informative journey. We boarded the train in Karumba and travelled all the way to cairns railway station. (We travelled to Kuranda via the sky lift which was a nice way to start the day with great views) It was a very warm day... More

We went from Kuranda back to Cairns in the afternoon. There is no air conditioner/ fans and the train moves very slowly. There is no real scenery to take in. The gondola is fantastic and makes for a more enjoyable and scenic view. We were counting down the minutes to get off.

Love this old fashioned train. A slow ascent to Miranda, beautiful vistas along the way. A photo stop above the Barron Falls. Best combined with the 7,5km Skyrail to go back down to sea level.

My Bubbe went in 1992 from the united states and she was wroooooong! This place puts the lame in lame as crap. It's a tourist trap. Only redeeming quality was the nap I took on the train. The sky rail wasn't too bad either but go to Harley's crocodile adventures instead

The journey up the railway from Cairns to Kuranda provides an invaluable insight into the building of the railway that opened up the Atherton Tablelands. Travel was comfortable. The stopover at Baron Falls was an ideal opportunity to get out of the carriage and walk around a little.

Booked onto train and went to Kuranda walked around the markets went into the Butterfly house. Caught the bus back to Cairns. This is a cheaper way by booking it yourself.

The entire Kuranda expedition from the railway line to sky rail is well managed but frankly have seen much better views and vintage railways. The only part of the experience which was totally worth it was the stunning sky rail view on the way back. If you decide to go to Kuranda, take the railway up and sky rail down.... More

This is absolutely fabulous. The clickety clack of the train would almost make you fall asleep except that you will be wide eyed at the beautiful scenery. Doing the train up to Kuranda and then the Sky Rail back down is the best way to do it (or the other way around).
