We pre-booked the "Ocean Spirit Sail to Michaelmas Cay Snorkel or Dive, from Cairns" before leaving the UK as we didn't want to miss out on this trip.
we left around 8.30am and arrived back about 5pm with around 4 hrs at the reef for snorkeling, seeing the fish and birds, lunch and coral viewing.
The equipment was supplied for you but bring money, rucksack, towel, change of clothes (in case), swimming stuff etc.
Staff really friendly and helpful and the views were amazing etc.
Worth the approx Aus $250 .

Bit wet.
What can I say? This place is home to the world's largest collection of mucous-covered fish pee-fed living antacid, known as coral, which despite living its entire life underwater, can still drown somehow. It hosts two times more worm species than fish, and since 1998, 98% of it has bleached, which as Michael Jackson proved, ain't healthy.

I had not expected much given the decline of the Great Barrier Reef. We had 3 swims, all on the same reef. Yes, some fish there and coral looked sad. The best ‘catch’ was a white-tipped reef shark.

We went out 2 days in a row and saw so many fish and clams with bioluminescent colours. The coral was beautiful. The weather was lovely. The water was clean. No stinger suit needed.

Returned to the outer reef after many decades. Lots of beautiful fish. The corals are not what they used to be, but still need to be seen. Enjoyed a helicopter ride over the reef, gorgeous colours.

An amazing place for those who either enjoy marine wildlife, or those merely wishing to experience the tropical climate at its best! When I visited, there was a problem when a reef shark came up behind me, however, they are very friendly and curious of humans. I wish to visit again soon, even if I do fear the ocean.

Having dived a little bit here and there around the world I have to say that my week of diving on the GBR was the first time ever that I have dived consecutively for seven days and not seen a single piece of plastic, glass bottle, or covid mask. The place is spotless. Hats off to those who administer the reef and keep it in such fine form.

We were looking forward to seeing one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Unfortunately, the time we went in November, Cairns just recovered from some heavy rainfall so the water was still unsettled. My partner was disappointed with his scuba diving experience as the water was too murky to see much. We then went into a sightseeing semi-submarine and I must say, it's nothing like what I expected - I knew the bleaching of the coral reefs will diminish the wow factor but it's a lot worse than I thought. Still, I still think it's worth seeing if you are visiting the area.

Is it worth doing this cruise if you are not going to dive or snorkel? do you see any of the reef or fish if you don't?

If you are not going to dive or snorkel, you need access to a glass bottomed boat with the cruise.
