Very well maintained, great for a quick dip and manned by lifeguards during the day. The actual beach in the Cairns cbd is un-swimmable so this man made lagoon is your next best bet if you are unable to travel to another beach nearby.

My friend and I relaxed on our towels on the grass right beside the pool, such nice views and a calm atmosphere.

Love the lagoon - and it's great that it's for the public and free. Great if you just want a chill day with friends tanning or enjoying the views.

Get food across the street or cook a BBQ. Bring a picnic or just a towel and sunbake. The water is beautiful and you can swim in it to cool down! Very popular for people of all ages.

Great spot for some water fun and suntanning! Easy access to public restrooms. Choose between grass patches or sand beds for your tanning session. Very family friendly!

The Esplanade is a great free activity for friends, families, groups-- anyone, really!-- passing through Cairns. It's a great place to cool off since Cairns doesn't really have any beaches, and even if you'd rather not get in the water, it's worth just walking by...More

Basically a free outside pool located right next to the ocean with plenty of space around to sunbathe. Very nice in summer, plus there are various water activities that you can join. Top!

Hi there - thanks very much for your review of the Cairns swimming lagoon. My wife & I will be there in less than 2 weeks & I was wondering if this facility is suitable for lap swimming in say, the early morning or late evening before closing. Thank you! CB

In June the beaches are safe as there's no stingers. Tobruk public pool is a few kms north of the lagoon. Crystal cascades is a lovely spot to swim but probably a bit cool on June.
