Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

Looks better than it actually is. To warm. Gritty on the bottom. If theres a pool at the hotel use that. Will be more relaxing and refreshing. It is a nice free feature though and life guards do a great job. Needs more R n R spots ( grass is boggy) and shade.

Excellent experience - Like a 5 star hotel waterfront - Might need a little more seats & shades but definitely the thing to do with young children in Cairns to mitigate the heat anytime of year - The change rooms more than adequate - A real sort of tropical reef sort of theme & a few top of the range... It was a busy time over Christmas so we decided to all meet at the lagoon. BBQ were busy but most people just fitted in. We shared a table with another family who left before more people arrived. Swimming with life guard short walk to shops or down to wharf where there were lots of vessels. Normal slip slop slap... More

We were initially hesitate to swim in this free public swimming pool. But once we jumped in, we love this place! The water is saltwater and very clean. It was crowded but it was so big there is plenty of room for everyone. Great view, lifeguards are keep watching, various depth suitable for everyone. We spent hours here from afternoon... More

Came to Cairns in Summer (silly us) and the kids were looking to spend as much time in the water as possible. The Espalanade pool is brilliant for the locals and visitors with a huge pool with plenty of room for everyone. Toilets and shops are close, the pool is patrolled and the kids thoroughly enjoyed this. I would recommend... More

This place is great. Situated on the boardwalk this free swimming pool area is one of the most iconic parts of cairns. With lifeguards, different depths for more confident swimmers, bbqs, change facilities. This area is clean and useable during the beautiful cairns tropical weather.

Didn't know that it is not advisable to swim in the ocean at Cairns before going so was thankful our hotel had a pool. This Lagoon is open to the public-free of charge and has great public restrooms and changing rooms with showers. Nice place to cool off and relax. Lots of people were lounging on the grass around the... More
