Escape the summer heat at one of Cairns' best known landmarks, the Esplanade Lagoon. Set on the Cairns foreshore overlooking Trinity Inlet, the 4800 sq metre saltwater swimming lagoon offers locals and tourists a year round safe swimming location. Saltwater is pumped from the inlet and filtered through a state of the art filtration and chlorination system, to meet Australian Standards. The kids can enjoy the sandy edges, build sand castles and play in shallow water. On the other side of the Lagoon, visitors can lounge on the timber decks in moderate shade. Shady trees, landscaped gardens and open spaces all contribute to the leisurely atmosphere on the Esplanade The Lagoon is open 6am - 9pm Thursday - Tuesday, Midday - 9pm Wednesday all year round. While you are on the Cairns Esplanade why not check out the Cottage Industry Market, 8am - 4pm every Saturday, in the Plaza just next to the Lagoon. Why not enjoy the weekend's live music featuring local bands with the stage set up next to the Lagoon. The Cairns Esplanade also boasts Beach Volleyball Courts, Bouldering Park, Skate Park, BBQs, Active Living Fitness Classes, Muddy's Playground, Funship Playgrounds and so much more, all free for casual use. Come along and enjoy!

A walk on the esplanade and a stop at the lagoon to relax and keep cool. Many kids and families, youngsters and tourists. It's worth a while , but if you want to swim, be careful: water shallow.

Great place to wander around, go for a swim, have a BBQ or picnic in a good sized park area. Even lifeguards on duty even though the water isn't deep.

We had no idea that this amazing family focused facility was here in Cairns. Whether you approach from the town centre or the Esplanade, this is beautiful sight from every angle and possibly the largest pool we have ever swam in. Perfectly designed with lots of varying depths to suit all swiming abilities there are also plenty of shaded areas... More

Great for a swim during the day or night. Nice and clean area with shade to get out of the hot sun. Directly across the road are restaurants and takeaway shops.

Cairns Esplanade swimming lagoon is an example of how local governments can impact tourist experience. The lagoon is in the sea front, very clean with life guards on watch all the time. It's a great family experience.
