The University of Queensland at St Lucia is one of Australia's leading universities. It is a Group of Eight university .It is described as an elite "sandstone university." It is a picturesque campus, with lush sub-tropical foliage. The ponds harbour fauna not found at other universities. The University of Queensland maintains high academic standards. It is well known for research into human biology and medical chemistry.

We arrived by ferry and we didn't walk through the whole campus. We visited two days after Christmas so it was pretty deserted and there was no food to be had. The lakes/ponds were enchanting. We saw turtles galore, eels, iguanas (or some kind of lizard), birds. There were various kinds of vegetation. I like that they are trying to restore the biodiversity of the area. Lovely grounds.

A great place to look around. Nice sand stone buildings!
Not sure about studying because we only looked at it.

After 4 years of my adult children studying at UQ - I am proud to say they have graduated and will continue to study further at this great institution. The Great university has some excellent facilities and is ranked in the world’s top 50 universities. A beautiful campus to walk around particularly in late October/November when the Jacaranda trees bloom, however July at Graduation time is something special too.
Situated on 114 hectares of Brisbane River-bound land, this campus is a vibrant mix of majestic sandstone buildings and contemporary architecture, landscaped gardens, lakes and sports facilities.

My wife and i were sending my son off to study here as an overseas student this February. Therefore, we wanted to check out the main campus in St. Lucia. UQ is rated as the best Australian university, and numerous independent rankings all give this university around the 50th mark in the world. A great academic institution usually has a great campus, and UQ is no different. Located on parkland, UQ is serviced by excellent public bus transit. In fact, the buses run on dedicated roads that are like subways above ground in Brisbane. The transit links the campus to all major points in Brisbane. Just this sort of public transit is exceptional and outperforms most North American universities. We have also checked out the Campus Residence---the International House, an area of many dormitory buildings that are low rises and surrounded by tropical plants which look like a Caribbean resort complex to me. The buildings are designed to be conducive to a relaxed and quiet atmosphere for academic learning; just excellent facilities. We have even sampled the dormitory food, which is better than our neighbourhood restaurants back home. During our tour, we came upon a cafe--the St. Lucy Caffe et Cucina, an Italian restaurant. We had the most delicious pizza there. To top it off, i had a Shanty, beer mixed with the original Schweppes Ginger Beer---something that i couldn't even find on my recent London trip. Just the availability of the beverage itself was worth the tour for me!! cheers.

Whether you are an academic or not, this is a beautiful campus. Whether in the historic stone buildings or the modern glass ones, the environment is pleasant, peaceful (unless you have an exam or assignment due) and a wonderful place to walk, jog, cycle, picnic or visit the numerous eateries.

I have been there as a student, attended conferences, forums, or just visited with friends. It is a multi-purpose, historic venue.
