Well located in town but access is only by chasing up the key at another tourist venue. I admit to not bothering as it looks great outside, but I suspect it's pretty average inside. The history behind it is very interesting and as I said;...More

We received the key of the Stuart Town Gaol from the school museum. We could take all the time we wanted. We only had to bring the key back. It was built in 1907-08. The former gaol was built with timber. In the 1920s when...More

Good mural at the entry yard, but sad reminders of why for years there was a need for iron-fisted control and the method involved. Free when open, it was used for the inspired Pentatonic five-venue concert held during the Desart Festival this year.

This gets 5 stars because you have to get the key from Hartley School and then with a $20 deposit and $2 upfront cost, they trust you to open up the jail and look at it yourself then lock it back up and bring back...More
