Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

We went because we remembers the TV series and the videos they show you are really interesting. The planes didn't turn me on but the story of the service is a great one

Tour started with a 20min hologram presentation which was extremely good. Then visit to shop and museum. Opportunity to go in actual plane replica and see required modifications.

We visited here to pass the time before travelling on. And we were reliving TV memories!! This was a great visit. Extremely welcoming. Good value. Great museum of how and why RFDS was set up, along with historical exhibits and interactive displays on today's service. There is also a hologram film about the history and today's functioning. Well stocked shop... More

This was a wonderful look into this service for the people of Australia. It provides an interesting video on the history and growth of the RFDS.

While in Alice Springs I managed to visit here. As a kid I watch the Australian drama the ' Flying doctors', so I was aware of them but didn't realise how big they actually are. Really informative and eye opening. I am pleased that I went.

I remember watching the TV show as a child so found this interesting. You watch a short movie about the RFDS and its history and then you can browse the museum. You also get the chance to sit in a replica plane to get an idea of what it is like to work in such confined spaces. There is a... More

Great facilities, excellent holographic film about the service, good museum and shop. Staff and volunteers are really helpful. Has a cafe, which we did not use. Royal Flying Doctors Service providing a great service to central Australia, visiting and buying small gifts is a great way to support them

This was fascinating, especially the numbered medicine cabinet and the bicycle pedal radio communication system. The ingenuity of systems they built was really cool.

I had heard about the Flying Doctors even as a child in the USA. This was a real learning experience.. \ They do have one of their current Swiss Pilatus aircraft and other items on display. Yes, they have a gift shop and I bought a book about historic rescues-some heart wrenching failures-and have ordered more of their books on... More
