Winner of the 2012 Brolga Northern Territory Tourism Award for Best New Tourism Development. Since 1928 the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) has provided 24-hour emergency medical services to those who live, work and travel throughout Australia. Today, the RFDS provides the finest care to more than 275,000 Australians each year – that’s one person every two minutes. Visit the original Alice Springs working base operating since 1939 to learn more about this unique service. The theatre allows the visitor to watch in comfort the life size hologram of John Flynn telling the story of the Royal Flying Doctor Service, a truly amazing experience! The Royal Flying Doctor Service is a non profit organization, with 100% of all profits made from tours, purchases in the cafe and from our online store going straight to the replenishment of medical equipment.

This was a really intersting visit that while not extensive was well presented and quite interactive. The husbands were like little boys in the cockpit!

Very informative talk and film. And the museum is comprehensive. A great way to spend an hour with the entry fee going to the RFDS.

Really interesting to see how the flying service works. So important for all Australia not just remote areas. Being medically trained myself, I was very interested and impressed with the work it does.

Having watched and read about the flying doctors as a child it was most interesting to visit the exhibition in Alice Springs. The distances covered and the services offered today are incredible.

Thank you very much for your visit, which in turn helps to keep the Flying Doctor Flying. Hope your son enjoyed sitting the Pilatus PC 12 aircraft too.

A very informative visit. A fascinating history of this service from the early days to the present. A nice little museum as well as being able to experience the inside of one of these aircraft. Well worth a visit

The Royal Flying Doctors have several Information (Visitor) Centers in other parts of Australia, but this is one of the original and the building is historic. Spend some time here and learn about this worthwhile service.

Especially for overseas guests this facility is an excellent informal way to learn of the inspirational necessity of outback living in our isolated vast country. A hologram video depicts the origins, process, requirements and human intervention required to set up and maintain this lifesaving service...More
