I LOVED CAVALLERIA RUSTICANA

Everything super organized and quiet, even with the surprising number of people transiting the place. Well trained and polite staff. Really deserve the title. I RECOMMEND

first opera for me, so if your expecting an expert review of LaBoheme, sorry I'm not your guy. I wanted to go to an opera out of curiousity and I found the total experience very pleasant, in fact I'd recommend everyone go because they obviously cost a lot to assemble the musicians and performers, and the venue must all cost... The advertising on billboards and TV could mislead opera lovers away from a very strong and 'traditional' performance of La Boheme. Sung in Italian by a multi-national cast with excellent musicianship from the orchestra and an energetic and empathetic conductor, the result was very rewarding! Yes the stage is very small but they make the best of the space available.... More

a Bohème and Cavalleria Rusticana/Pagliacci. Both were set in more modern times than the original iteration, but both worked. The voices floated above the orchestra; they were never hidden or overpowered. The architecture poses significant limitations on the staging, because there are no wings. All sets are brought up from below by lift. We learned this during the backstage tour... More

Very enjoyable experience at the SOH. Our first Opera and we thoroughly enjoyed the show. A must do when you go to Sydney. Well done to all the cast.

Our first visit to the Opera House and we were not disappointed. The opera was beatifully sung and presented; great staging too. Our seats, at the front of the Circle were excellent, very comfortable and with a great view of the stage. The only gripe was all the steps we had to take to get to our seats. There is... More

Went to the outdoor Opera - the Eighth Wonder in the rain. The performance looking up at the Opera house sails was marred by the selfish people who used umbrellas for the rain and blocked your sight lines. Opera staff basically did nearly nothing in enforcing the no umbrella rule. Left early and would seriously considering not attending another outdoor... More

What a wonderful evening. I have never seen the audience so enthused, it was more than toe tapping, clapping, standing ovation & dancing. Pink Martini is a 15-piece 'little orchestra' from Portland, Oregon who teamed up with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra. It was blending of classical, funk, jazz and Latin sounds. The bandleader Thomas Lauderdale and lead singer China Forbe,... More

You can see Carmen at your local picture theatre( Metopera.com)listen to recordings but nothing surpasses a night of live opera at the Opera House. Go for the singing, the music, the colour, the atmosphere but GO, they need your support.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
