Over whelmed by the experience, backdrop and the harbour itself. Dining for most was not a problem as we stopped for a food break on the way down. Others in our group had no complaints. Apart from the show the sailing of a large cruise ship was an added bonus. A most enjoyable event (except for the toilet queues).

Carmen was dissapointing. Costumes dull, generally lacking coulor. Props were too minimilist with some cool effects. Carmen was no Femme Fatale. Felt like she was from a high school musical with a better voice. Harbour and fireworks were amazing. but still a good night out.

My husband and I recently travelled to Sydney from Brisbane to see Handa Opera’s performance of Carmen, on Sydney Harbour. All I can say is WOW!! What a stunning production, with wonderful performances from the principals and ensemble alike. The costumes are stunning, and the sets very clever. Top class production values! And coupled with the most amazing backdrop of... More

The whole experience was fantastic! The Opera itself was world beating lay good and the setting is unique. The combination of stage, opera house and bridge in background with the harbour traffic cannot be found anywhere else. I thought the organisation was excellent with food service on the Garden Terrace managed well. No,not cheap but where else........?. We sat in row... More

Took my 19 year old granddaughter to see her first ever opera. Nothing could have been better than seeing La Traviata at the Sydney Opera House. We dined in the Benelong Restaurant which made a perfect evening and gave us such wonderful memories to share. I would recommend taking the tour of the opera house before watching a performance, which... More

My wife and I recently saw the last night of the production of La Traviata. It was our first time in the Opera House. We very much enjoyed the performance, the feel of the place and the outstanding views at the various bars and breakout areas outside the concert hall. The only slight downside was 'ignorant' Asian girls incessantly playing... More

We discovered that opera Australia was doing Carmen in Sydney Harbor on our last night of a two week tour of Australia and as we love opera and try to go wherever we are, we had to go. It was stunningly good and thebackdrop of Sydney harbor bridge and the opera house was gorgeous too. The voices were all excellent,... More

This was my first time in the Opera House. I was visiting from Canada and decided the ultimate experience would be to see a real Iive opera. I was not disappointed. From the initial walk around the building, watching a cruiseship leave on its journey, to the actual opera itself. La Traviata was beautiful. The singing was phenomenal and deserved... More

An amazing performance at Mrs Macqauries Chair - met all the senses - beautiful backdrop, could have a snack and glass of wine and be totally relaxed and the music is just amazing - one of my favourite operas but even better with the screens showing the English translation, so much easier to understand the detail and subtleties.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
