The Australian Chamber Orchestra’s concert in the evening of Monday 7th November 2016 at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre concert hall in Brisbane was a treat. The chamber ensemble had engaged the services of some prominent wind and brass virtuosos (from the Israel Philharmonic, Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, West Australian Symphony Orchestra, Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Sydney... We recently attended the Opera House Concert Hall to see Sequenza Italiana. What a stunning performance by world-class musicians. It was the first time that my partner, a musician, and his daughter, a student cellist, has actually attended the ACO. It will be impossible to impress them now, given how amazing their first concert was. And not only are the... More

We saw them at the Bach-Mozart-Beethoven concert on March 16th. The Grosse Fugue was out of this world.

I have been to see the ACO several times but this concert brought their performance to new heights. It was a great blening of the new with the old. Pekka Kuusisto was a great director and the orchestra (all strings) really responded with a cohesive sound. Honestly I was upset when the performance was over as I did not want... More

I recently heard the ACO with Richard Tognetti who is the Artistic Director and violinist. I was stunned by the quality of the music and the sheer exuberance of the performance. It is always a joy to see musicians who are both professional and passionate. I have only become a classical music fan in recent years but I do recommend... More

If you have an opportunity to hear the ACO, it will always be enjoyable, usually brilliant, often surprising. They are based in Sydney but, luckily for us, travel.

This is the second year I have had an ACO subscription, only previously bought individual tickets and I love them. The latest concert featured Barry Humphries and Meow Meow performing a Concert of songs from the Weimar era and the ACO was as competent and comfortably at home in this genre as their more classical repertoire. I love seeing them... More

Richard T makes this band simply bring the music alive. If you get the chance to attend a performance it's not to be missed

This was a concert given by the orchestra as a 'thankyou' to an art gallery in Sydney which supports them. The music as always was superb - Vivaldi a perennial favourite. A surprise was the Shostakovich which was quite wonderful. A youthful and very talented orchestra, always a pleasure to attend their performances.

Chamber & Classical music isn't for everyone, but if you are in Sydney and you see they are performing, you would be well placed to see them. They generally take Classical music and put a slight twist on it.

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
