Background music in a pub is expected to lively, but when you can barely carry on a conversation, it is too much. The steaks were good as was the service. The interior is in need of a makeover, and the music level reduced by at least 50%. I might have considered a higher rating, but the negative ambiance was just... More

After walking around and checking beer prices this is the cheapest beer in town. At $5.50 a pint in happy hour 12pm to 10pm you can't go wrong. Plenty of beers to choose from. Okay it's has basic decor but the atmosphere is typically Australian.

We called in for a drink on our way to our evening meal. It was loud (and I mean loud) we couldn't have a conversation with each other as we couldn't hear each other, even upstairs. It was dirty and sticky floors. Avoid at all costs.

I went to Scruffy Murphy's for a late lunch before a concert. Everything about the experience was average. Service, average. Food, average. Beer choices were average, but some where only $5 a pint.

Came here for a cheap $10 steak and had to wait a while to be served even though there was 3 staff behind the bar and 2 of them were doing nothing. Once we got served I was short changed by $1.40 but couldn't be bothered to wait another 20mins to complain. The tables were dirty and no one was... More

The prices of their food are inexpensive however it's not a great price, its cheap food. The chicken was overcooked and dry, and my partner's steak was ordered medium-rare but came out well done and chewy, not to mention only half a centimetre thick. The drinks are a great price for the location and it has a fantastic pub atmosphere,... More

this place has an Irish atmosphere, and has great affordable food and drink prices. Has unreal live entertainment on weekends, and fills with really interesting patrons from all walks of life. Delicious breakfasts are a must. Also ceoliac sensitive. If you visit Sydney CBD, this place is a must.

I visited the little take out place which is attached to Sccruffy's. I had an excellent bacon and egg roll and a coffee for breakfast. Very cheap $7

It's one of those places we used to come to on recommendation of the hostel we were staying in when we first visited Australia, but that was 8 years prior to now, and the place has changed as well as us! It's a pretty rough old spot, with some rather salacious individuals on the prowl. Quite a fright to see... More

Classic backpackers bar. We had a big night here on the Friday, then instead of trying out the rest of the city on Saturday - went back for Round Two and it was a great time! Cheap drinks, fun atmosphere, good live music upstairs on the Saturday

Staying in Central Business District

Neighbourhood Profile
Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.
