    Boathouse here we come again
A trip to Sydney is incomplete without a good meal at Boatshed, Sydney Fish Market. Ken, our favorite chef was on duty that day and took over preparing the dished for us. We (6 of us) started off with a large lobster, the flesh sashimi style and the rest stirred fried with noodles, the Ken style. We also had a good dose of fresh prawns and bbq squid. We washed it down with 3 bottles of Sauvignon Blanc Semillon. What a perfect combo!

    Undergoing Redevelopment
I wish tourists would take heed of the signs warning not to feed the birds instead of "baiting" them for a photo opportunity! A few people around us lost their fish before they even got to taste them. Not sure about the new redevelopment as prefer the old market charm that seems to be disappearing.

Amazing fresh seafood! A must go to
The Sydney Fishmarket Adventure! When fresher than fresh is on the table, the Sydney Fishmarket it is! There is indeed Heaven on planet Earth! Invited by @johnsusman and accompanied by @melnathan this was a Monday we’ll spend! Thank you John for this most enjoyable Brunch date! Wouldn’t want to have missed it for anything, and enjoying together with Mel, just magic! As everyone knows, markets are our thing, and if it’s next to the sea where you are guaranteed the freshest of seafood it is simply sensational! It’s not our first visit, we came here 4/5 years ago, but today was special as John is an expert for many a years, and also co-author of a stunning and educational book on Australian Seafood! What seemed amazing though that the market hall appears to be run by mainly the Asian ethnicity, loads of Chinese & Taiwanese, but also a healthy mix of other ethnic groups! The clientele on first look appears to be also around (my guess) about 75-80% Asian. One would had never thought to be in Australia, on the other hand it shows a strong integration of that ethnic group, which was evident when I spoke to some young chinese folks they would exclaim quite proudly to be Aussies, whereby some of the older folks would refer to their country of origin! On the product side. The vast array of seafood was just mind boggling, heaven for any Seafood oriented folks, Can only highly recommend! Enjoy this little pictorial #gourmettravel #australianadventure #foodiesdream #sydney #sydneyfoodies #sydneyfishmarket #theboatshedpyrmont #theboatshed

Amazing range of fresh seafood, and great cooked ones too.
Lots & lots of amazing huge range of fresh seafood on sale. An eye watering experience, seeing many types of seafood ( sea creatures) which one don't usually see anywhere else. The main building is quite small & houses mostly restaurants & few shops. Outside are more standalone shops. As expected, hordes of tourist here, enjoying the great cooked seafood at restaurants, after browsing the raw ones in shops. Definitely worth a visit to this famous place.

    Fresh but overpriced
We came here on our very first day in Sydney but arrived too late at 5 pm to witness most stalls had closed. This morning, we went for a ferry tour to Cockatoo Island and on return, took the train from Circular Quay to Central and boarded the Light Rail tram to the Fish Market. We came here specifically for our seafood lunch. The Fish Market is just a 1 to 2 mins walk from the Fish Market train station. We were shocked by the huge crowd here and most seats were occupied. I found the market clean, well maintained, lustrously bright and orderly. The last time I visited a fish market was the Jagalchi Fish Market in Busan. The fish market here seem more quieter and less rowdy and clean. The market seems more touristy with Chinese tourists. I was stunned and mesmerised by the wide varieties of seafood choices. Salmon, abalones, crabs, lobsters, scallops, tuna fillets, King Crabs legs, fish roe, squids, cuttle fish, prawns, that it took me sometime to decide what to order. Finally, we decided to order a lobster platter for two from the Fish Market Cafe. One set cost A$92. We managed to find our seats and enjoyed our platter. The oyster with cheese was the best that I had tasted. Soft, fresh and creamy, it just melted in my mouth with a cheesey flavour. The lobster meat was a bit hard and not easily cut with the wooden knife though it was plalatable with a layer of cheese. The size of the lobster was also not very big but the meat was very fresh. The prawns were also very freshly baked. We were happy with our gastronomic indulgence though we found the french fries too much for our stomach. The platter appeared to me over pricey. Nevertheless, it was amazing and an eye opener to witness the wide range of abundant seafood caught in Australian waters. Really remarkable. It is indeed the second largest fish market in the world just behind that in Japan. The Fish Market has been voted as Australia's Traveller's Choice Winner in 2023.

    The Boat shed - Pyrmont
Really great seafood selections - fresh prawns, shell fish, oysters, octopus plus plenty of calamari and chips. To top it all off - spanner crab. I would have swapped the crab for lobster in hind site and had 2 platers not 3. Way too much food. Great day and great atmosphere.

    A Fish worthy experience!
If you like fish or seafood, this is a great place to get the freshest lunch in the area. So many options! You can have them prepare your fish right in front of you, get raw fish, fried fish, sushi, fish- to-go, etc. they have plenty of picnic tables to eat at on the back side of the market. Beware of the birds!! They will swoop in and steal your lunch if your aren’t careful! That is the only downside. If that isn’t your idea of fun they do have some indoor seating and even a restaurant that will serve you. Fun family activity when in Sydney.

    Competitive prices
Although very dated the Sydney Fish Markets plenty of options to buy fresh seafood as competitive prices. There are numerous take away stalls within including a fresh vegetable market. Parking can be a problem but overall, a very good experience..

    I want it all
Give me all of the seafood 🥰 Visited around 8 am and got the opportunity to watch the vendors setup for the day. This is the 3rd largest fish market in the world and everything looked fresh. There are a few restaurants in the market offering cooked seafood or if you want it fresh I.e. a dozen oysters already shucked or some sashimi you can go to one of the fresh counters. The marker is only open until 4 pm but if you enjoy ultra fresh local seafood, you must visit

    For seafood lovers
The entrance is unassuming (can be better maintained and more conspicuous). A building sells raw fish (for takeaway), another building sells cooked seafood. There were many people across the seafood stalls. Ample seating tables outdoor. Prices are not cheap. Ordered garlic butter lobster tail (around AUD21) and two sushi pieces (AUD3.80 each).

I went for a look around early on a Sunday morning. Great place to go and get fresh fish and seafood. Great vibe and people are friendly. It was a rainy day and they are working on the building so I don't think it was as lively as normal but I really enjoy my time and picked up some great Sydney rock oysters for $25 per dozen.

This was our second visit to Sydney so wanted to do something different so decided to take the Sydney Fish Market Tour. Mandy was our informative tour guide. We visited the auction room and learned the wholesale process. We also visited retail shops and heard some of the history of the Aboriginal fishing methods and of the Sydney Harbor. We loved it!

We did the early morning tour, which was outstanding. So worth getting up at 6am. A real experience to see all the fish and seafood being auctioned live everyday. Definitely highly suggest to see where your local fish and chip shop fish actually comes from. Biggest takeaway, buy local.

Not at all impressed with the size or quality of the market from a tourists perspective. and it all shuts down by 4 pm. There are so many other great things you can do with your time in Sydney - this is not one of them.

We were the first to tour on the 10am walking tour with Mandy! Luckily, because of a good catch day, we saw the tail end of the auction action as well! It was a super informative and educational tour with so many close up discussions of the different sea life, natural species, and fishing practices in Australia. It definitely changed the way I buy fish. Loved this tour! Mandy was awesome and made the tour super special!

Came here to see the fish market as you do. Definitely worth a visit just to see the incredible selection of fish and the hustle and bustle. Loads of nice eateries so we got some absolutely amazing sushi! Sat outside to eat which isn’t posh. Lots of seagulls and bird poo as you would probably expect. Not helped by stupid tourists feeding them constantly. But still really enjoyed it.

An amazing array of seafood on display with some amazing prices to match for the high end crab/crays. Very busy place and service took a while, and difficult to find a table and seating to eat, although rear of building is under new construction so should fix this down the track.

Only a brief walk from one of the Sydney Hop On/Hop Off bus stops. We had a wonderful lunch of steamed lobster and salmon brinis. Enjoyed walking through markets and seeing so many different kinds of seafood.
