Neighbourhood: Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. Opera House tour - Did not include 'off-limit' areas
Jun 2021 • Couples
I have just been on the tour. I believe the advertising bordered on misleading. We did not see anything that was 'normally off-limits' to the public, nothing behind the scenes. We only saw inside theatres that were open to the public when seeing shows. We did not see either of the two big theatres. The concert theatre was closed for refurbishment, which was not noted in the advertising. Quite disappointed.

Enjoyable evening activity
Had a thoroughly enjoyable and informative experience on the Sydney opera house Behind the Scenes night tour. Our guide "Bruce " was knowledgeable and interesting and obviously enjoys his job. Refreshment and canapes served were light and fresh. All in all a great evening. My wifes first trip to the Opera house and a great introduction!

Counterpoints-The Australian Ballet
May 2021 • Friends
We visited the Joan Sutherland Theatre at the Sydney Opera House with a friend on a clear Friday night 7 May. Sydney was in a partial lockdown so the roads were not busy and we arrived early. Fortunately the front bar was open where we could sit and have a quiet drink before the performance looking out on the magnificent view and catching up with our friend.

Counterpointe is a combination of traditional and modern ballet. The first section is from an Italian composer Petipa who wrote Sleeping Beauty called Raymonda. It is a wedding scene first performed in the Maarinski Theatre in St Petersburg in 1898. It is a superb classical ballet with exquisite synchronisation and visual beauty.
The highlight for us was the performance by the two principal dancers Ako Kondo and Chengwu Guo to Tschaikovsky Pas de Deux. It is coquettish, brilliant, fast, fun, athletic and ends with an extraordinary balletic equivalent of “anything you can do, I can do better”!

The second part Artifact Suite in contrast is almost “boot camp” for ballet. Artefact was originally written in 1984 and hailed as a breakthrough in ballet. It features the “Other Person” a gender less non persona dressed in white who leads the dancers dressed in khaki green in rhythmic clapping and stylised movements without having time to consider what they are doing. It is thought to be an expression of fascism! It certainly felt like it!

A brilliant night at the ballet!

Dear coleman22, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and wonderful review. You have expressed beautifully the essence of Counterpoint. It is indeed exhilarating to spend a night at the Opera House sharing a drink with a friend and gazing out on to the beautiful Sydney Harbour. We are thrilled to have The Australian Ballet back with us at the House and to witness such talent and athleticism. Thank you for your support and kind words . We look forward to seeing you at our next ballet. Kind regards, Team SOH

Beautiful architecture and views
Apr 2021
Head to the North end for a gorgeous and expansive view across the harbour towards Luna Park. Always lovely to go for a pre-show drink.

Dear NPLjoey, Thank you for your lovely review. You have found the ultimate vantage spot in the Joan Sutherland Theatre. The northern end has a lovely vantage point to sit down and have a snack and a glass of champagne or a nice red while marveling at the beautiful harbour. You can even go out on to the balconies and take in the sea breeze and feel immersed in the harbour foreshore while watching the ferries glide by. We can not think of a better way to start the evening then with a pre show drink at the Ballet or why not treat your self to our ovation dining experience in the northern foyeur during one of our Operas. See you at the bar. Kind regards, Team SOH

Sydney Opera House
Mar 2021
This time I did not actually go to the Opera House like last time but just viewed it from the harbour. It is UNESCO listed, National Trust classified and on the State Heritage Register. It is Sydney and Australia's landmark like Paris Eiffel Tower and was finally opened in 1973 some 15 years later when work began in 1958. The Danish architect Jorn Utzon actually resigned and it was the Australian architectural team headed by Peter Hal that finished it. It comprises of interlocking shells which roof two main performance halls and a restaurant. These shell structures are set upon a vast platform and are surrounded by terrace areas that function as pedestrian concourses.. The three main resident companies that use the Opera House are Opera Australia, Sydney Theatre Company and Sydney Symphony Orchestra. It is one of the most visited site in Australia and has plenty of tours and activities to do and shows to watch

Dear Peter M, Thank you for your lovely review of the Opera House. We are indeed so lucky to be blessed with this unique and wonderful piece of modern architecture. It really did put Australia on the map and has become the jewel in our cultural crown. It's history reads more like an Opera with its twists and turns and our fabulous tour guides bring this to life on a daily basis. We are currently renewing our Concert Hall which should be ready in a matter of months. We are continually keeping the House current and innovative by working closely with our creative partners. We do hope you get to step foot inside and see our wonderful new additions especially in the Concert Hall but also to do tour or see a show. Once again thankyou for your thoughtful review and we look forward to welcoming you back next time. Kind regards, Team SOH

Worldwide icon

Just walked up to and around this worldwide icon - it is cool to see the tiles on the sails, the steepness of the sails and a great view of harbour bridge

Dear Harrison-act, Thank you for taking the time to write a lovely review. We never tire of gazing at this beautiful piece of architecture. The light can hit the sails at various times of day casting different hues of white and cream. The House still looks as modern and magnificent as it did almost 50 years ago, We are so proud to have our beautiful Opera House nestled on our magnificent harbour. We hope you come back again soon and take in a show or stop by for a drink and contemplate the view. Kind regards, Team SOH
