Top ways to experience Sydney Opera House
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Central Business District
The Sydney Central Business District is abuzz with energy. Power brokers run to and from high rise buildings and after-work drink places, high-end shoppers tour venues like the QVB, and fine diners frequent the many celebrity chef restaurants. For a dose of culture, walk to the NSW Art Gallery, or visit the Sydney Museum. To escape the hustle and bustle, reconnect with nature at the Sydney Botanical Gardens or picnic lunch at High Park. No matter your interest, be sure to check the full calendar of events hosted by the city, from the Sydney Festival in January to October’s Good Food Month at Hyde Park.

    Welcoming Team Sydney Opera House
I visited The Opera House wondering about a specific piece of art work. The Welcoming Team went above and beyond to assist me. Their friendly manner and genuine interest in my request was excellent. They should be very proud of their team and how they showcase the Opera House and their dedicated desire to help. All I can say is thank you so much. Cheers Janet

    So Unique
Our friends walked with us from dinner on the Quay and showed us through the Opera House after dark. The outside lighting was spectacular, to say the least. We were able to tour around the inside in the lobby area which was interesting. I would liked to have taken a tour.
Dear 2CAtravelers, Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are so glad you enjoyed your visit to our iconic landmark. We agree, the walk from Circular Quay to the Opera House at night is a special sight to see with the sails and harbor glistening with light. We are thrilled you got the chance to visit our Box Office areas as the interior architecture is very unique. Next time, our one hour guided tours will take you around the Opera House and into our theatres learning all about our history along the way. We look forward to welcoming you back at the Sydney Opera House and hopefully meeting you on one of our guided tours soon! Regards, Team SOH

Couldn’t visit Sydney with a trip the the Opera house
Spent the day walking around Sydney whilst on a recent business trip and could not have gone all that way without seeing the opera house , truly is a wonderful building. It looks smaller on the pictures you see of it and don’t realise how big it is until up close. Definitely one of the most icon buildings in the world
Dear ntjsmith, Thank you for your lovely review, we are so glad that you enjoyed your visit to the Sydney Opera House. We agree the this iconic building is a spectacular view, especially in person. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Team SOH

A cultural icon with innovative design
The Sydney Opera House is an iconic cultural landmark in Australia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its innovative design and stunning harbour view make it a must-see destination. From the grand theatre to the outdoor performances, the Opera House offers a unique experience for everyone. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a lifelong fan, the Sydney Opera House is sure to wow you.
Dear tiffanieh2017, Thankyou for this in-depth review. The Sydney Opera House is the symbol of modern Australia. A World Heritage-listed masterpiece of “human creative genius,” it exists because a few brave people dared to think differently. From conception to completion, the building tested the limits of engineering, construction and design. When the Opera House opened its doors in 1973, changing the image of Australia, a new era of cultural discovery and community engagement began. Five decades later, we stand as an important community meeting place, the nation’s busiest performing arts centre and an integral part of Sydney through our contribution to culture, heritage, sustainability and tourism. We are so pleased you enjoyed your time here with us and we hope to welcome you back again soon. Kind regards, Team SOH

Dear 97sangeetas, Thank you for writing your lovely review. We agree the Sydney Opera House is an iconic, world class masterpiece and on 28 June 2007 the Sydney Opera House was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List under the World Heritage Convention, placing it alongside the Taj Mahal, the ancient Pyramids of Egypt and the Great Wall of China as one of the most outstanding places on Earth! Recommend the tour
I have been going to operas with my dad for as long as I can remember. I knew that I had to introduce my own kids to opera, and what better way than the Sydney Opera House? The Opera House is a misnomer, as the actual theater for opera is actually the smaller of the two main theaters. There's a lot going on here at all times, and there's truly something for everyone. I HIGHLY recommend the tour. Even if a 3 hour opera (we saw Aida; it was fantastic - especially the set!) isn't to your liking, the tour goes by so fast you'll be wanting more.
Dear mikez_n Thank you for your review. We are delighted that you enjoyed your tour and recommend the Sydney Opera House to everyone. It is wonderful that you have visited the Sydney Opera House many times and we thank you for your continued patronage We look forward to welcoming you back very soon. Kind Regards, Team SOH

Elegance and Grace, a magnificent sight to behold
Its elegant white sails, inspired by the curves of the Sydney Harbour, create an inspiring and graceful atmosphere. Its unique and innovative design is a testament to the creativity of its architect, Jorn Utzon. Visiting the Sydney Opera House is a must-do for anyone who wishes to experience the beauty of Australia.
Dear raokhalidj, Thank you for your kind review and flattering words! We hope you enjoyed your visit and are looking forward to welcoming you inside the Sydney Opera House, perhaps to enjoy a performance or do a tour of this magnificent building. Kind Regards, Team SOH

    Opera and pre show dinner
I had a wonderful evening at the Opera House. I saw the opera Aida and had the pre opera dinner. It was my first opera ever, and I really enjoyed it. I don't know if this is standard with all operas , but there is translation that ran along the top part of the stage area making it easy to follow. My only regret is I planned this the day after I arrived from the US on the very long international flight and foolishly had a glass of wine with dinner. Made it a challenge. I won't do that again. The dinner was very good and views of the harbor are breathtaking! The opera house itself is gorgeous and on another day I took the 1 hour tour. So interesting !Highly recommend. When I went 23 years ago with my young children it was too much for them. This time I enjoyed the tour so much more not having to keep up with wandering children. So give it some thought before you go with active young children ,
Dear kimrK9166FH, Thank you so much for your lovely review, we are so pleased to read how you made the most of your visit by taking a tour of the Sydney Opera House as well as dine here and see a performance! We can only imagine how you felt combining a glass of wine, a jetlag and an opera! We are glad you enjoyed Aida and are delighted the subtitles helped with understanding the story. We hope it won't be another 23 years till you visit us again! Warm Regards, Team SOH

    Sydney Opera House
A must see in Sydney. Amazing architecture. So many places to take pictures. While here, it is a short stop to see the Governor's House and Royal Gardens. Tourist shopping in the nearby wharf area (also w/in walking distance).
Dear Jennifer H, Thank you for your review. We are very glad to hear that you appreciate our beautiful building! It is certainly a very interesting and photogenic building, and conveniently located right in the heart of Sydney Harbour. Thanks again for leaving us a review, we look forward to welcoming you back soon to the Sydney Opera House! Kind regards, Team SOH

    Worth see at night too
We have been at the Opera House a few times over the years, but decided to do something different and went there to see the building (and the harbour) at night. There were not a lot of people (a windy winter evening) but the building was pretty nice when viewed at night. We took Uber there and back, and probably spent less than an hour walking around, but it is worth it if you have the time
Dear ECWorld, Thank you for the review. We agree that our beautiful building is also stunning after dark and well worth the visit, even on a cold winter's night! Thanks again, we look forward to welcoming you again soon at the House! Kind regards, Team SOH

We had the most amazing guide Jason- unbelievably knowledgeable and a delight to listen to. It was really worthwhile. Pity tips weren’t encouraged as he was a winner.
Please pass on these comments to him- I’m the blonde who asked if Utzon was still living-😂 obviously I’m not a mathematician.
But tell Jason that I have told anyone who will listen since the tour, that the architect who designed the interior of the Sydney Opera House is Peter Hall and is Australian.

I found it to be scary but really enjoyable. It did look inviting from the outside so I put my fears to one side and looked up to the sky (past the croissant shaped clouds) and found the courage to do so.

This was my final world wonder - and what a MEH way to end this 12 year journed to see all of them (See New7Wonders of the World [including backups]) This building is ok to look at, from far, far, FAR away but up close it's actually pretty ugly, and is it a wonder? it was completed in the 1970s - how can you compare that to something like the Pyramids or Petra?? If you are in Sydney of course go and take the cliche tourist picture (it is iconic) but would I tell someone to fly to Australia for this - NO.

This tour was so interesting and Sheila was an awesome guide. She gave us loads of information about the building and was really knowledgeable when answering questions. It was exciting to go inside the building and see the performance spaces, and getting an understanding of the architecture and how the place was built was great. A brilliant tour to do whilst in Sydney!

The tour includes both the outside and interior, from both an architectural and engineering focus. Some of the information is technical, for those who understand building construction. The views and close-ups of the concrete and tilework are excellent. Visits to the restaurant and main concert hall were included.

Dear peterlJ3128TZ, Thank you for your kind review. It sounds like you did our specialized Architecture tour, we are so glad that you enjoyed your tour of our iconic landmark. And that you enjoyed getting up close and personal with the concrete and tilework. As your guide may have mentioned Utzon wanted the shells to contrast with the deep blue of Sydney Harbour and the clear blue of the Australian sky. The tiles needed to be gloss but not be so mirror-like to cause glare. Three years of work by Höganäs of Sweden produced the effect Utzon wanted in what became known as the 'Sydney Tile', 120mm square, made from clay with a small percentage of crushed stone, triple-glazed and self-cleaning, there are a total of 1,056,006 tiles on the Sydney Opera House shells. We hope to welcome you back soon! Kind regards, Team SOH

Loved our tour! Would recommend the tour of the Opera House to anyone. The hidden gems of knowledge, seeing the different theatres and understanding the history of the house was all shared on the tour and is something we wouldn’t have known prior. The tour was made better by our guide Maeve who was super friendly, informative, engaging and kept the tour super interactive. Great experience and a must do if visiting the landmark.

First time to Sydney - no Opera on so I went to Singing in the Rain with the Sydney Orchestra playing. The place is iconic. It truly is stunning from every angle. The whole experience was a bucket list item checked.
