The National Zoo & Aquarium is privately owned and Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium. That's 2 attractions in one! We are situated on around 7 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. With a wide variety of both native and exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia, there is something for everyone. Wander in and have a casual stroll around the park, or make a day of it with family, friends and make use of our picnic areas and complimentary BBQ facilities. Our Animal Encounters provide visitors with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures!

With international guests visiting, we reluctantly decided to revisit the zoo, knowing that it had been refurbished since the last time I was there 15 years ago (when it was rubbish). Well, it's still rubbish. Extremely expensive, uninspiring exhibits (we couldn't even find the snow leopard), amateur and boring aquarium, and I had to walk into a sort of "backstage... More

Hi jazzmuso7, I note that your visit was almost 12 months ago. While a lot has happened in the zoo in that time. For example we have updated our caterer since your visit and the feedback about the quality and value of the Cafe food has been very positive. It's unfortunate that you feel our exhibits are uninspiring and the... More

This was an overpriced place to visit. $40 each for a 45 minute visit. We didn't stay long because of the heat and no events. We were disapointed that during school holiday time there were no presentations held throughout the day we were there, and the special animal experiences were not offered. If we had of known this we probably... More

Hi laurenwillow, we can understand that you didn't stay long due to the heat. Canberra and indeed many parts of Australia are experiencing a very warm spell at present, however it is confusing that you mention that there were "no presentations held throughout the day" - This is incorrect. We hold 10 Keeper Talks every day during School Holidays starting... More

As zoos go it is good. It is still expanding. There are lots of feeding times to watch and animal encounters to be had. If you go in the summer, go in the morning or late afternoon. The animals will hide away in the heat.

I was unsure about what to expect from this tour, after different comments from friends telling us that you only get to feed the animals through the cage. However I was very happy with my whole experience. To begin with our guide, Ty, was polite, knowledgeable and clearly very passionate and excited to be in his job. His customer service... More

An amazing day spent at the National Zoo and Aquarium. Although the zoo is "small" by zoo standards, the use of space is amazing and the animals seem comfortable and settled in their surroundings. Staff are friendly and full of knowledge and information. Highly recommended!

We were told the zoo is very much a work in progress, set to more than double in size in coming years. It is well laid out, with ample shade trees and safe walking paths. Signage is somewhat lacking, both to direct you to where you want to go, and also at the individual animal enclosures e.g. an enclosure might... More

Great fun for all the family. Excellent day out. Competitively priced. Cool variety of animals. Wheelchair accessible. Easy gradients. Friendly helpful staff. White lions. Bears, marsupials and exotic animals. Meals were good.

This zoo just keeps getting better and better. It is not huge but has so much to see and the layout makes it work well if you have little ones or oldies. There is plenty of shade and nice vegetation and good picnic spots and a cafe with a range of hot and cold foods. A great place to go... More

To be perfectly honest, save your money & go to Taronga Park Zoo in Sydney. There aren't many animals to see & for $80 for the 2 of us as entrance fee it was very overpriced. At the entrance there were two windows open but only 1 person serving & it was taking a really long time, while two other... More

Hi Debra M, sorry to hear that your visit to the zoo recently was not up to your expectations. We are not as old, not as large, nor are we government funded as is Taronga Zoo. But we do have quite a large range of animals (over 200) in large realistic enclosures. Sorry you had a delay in entering but... More
