From the outside of this building you would not imagine what treasures it holds. When we entered we were given an unplanned look at the 3 original Constitutions signed by Queen Victoria, with the original seals. They had to be kept covered and when shown to anyone the lights had to dimmed as the parchment and printing deteriorates with light.... More

An unexpected pleasure when we visited the National Archives. The intention was to experience the Iconic Houses of Australia exhibition but discovered there was so much more to enjoy. Great to see our history in safe hands.

Most people to Canberra focus on the War Memorial, Parliament House and National Museum etc. The locals know how fantastic the national Archives are. There is often an exhibition and a great gift shop for unusual items. Parking at the front door and conveniently located near Old Parliament House. One of our favourites

After many years of living in Canberra we had our first visit in ages. We went to see the Iconic Australian Houses exhibit. A great throw-back to my childhood and the homes our parents bought and built in the 60's. 70's and 80's. Lots of other special documents and interactive exhibits in the first room. Wont leave it so long... More

The National Archives often have exhibitions in their public area that are very interesting but tend to fly under the tourist radar. In addition for those pursuing genealogical matters or war service of family etc. the staff can well guide you in your researches.

Located within throwing distance from both the old and new parliament. The National Archives provides a bit sized museum experience with high quality exhibitions. Also their school holidays activities are loads of fun.
