Lanyon Homestead lies at the foot of the Brindabella Ranges and is one of Australia’s premier historic properties. The Precinct’s centrepiece, the 1850's Homestead, has been beautifully restored and furnished.

Set within superb gardens the Lanyon includes an historic homestead and outbuildings sited within a working rural property.

Sheep and cattle still graze on the timbered hills and fertile banks of the Murrumbidgee river.

Admission includes a guided tour of the Homestead.

Lanyon also offers a range of exciting community and learning programs and special events.

We also provide unique venues for weddings, anniversaries and other celebrations.

The enticing Lanyon Cafe has spectacular views and is a popular destination for week day luncheons and a weekend breakfast.

I went here for a wedding

We went here for a wedding. It was held in the gardens and it was an absolutely stunning venue. Highly recommended as a wedding venue.

While it is a little further out from Canberra, about a half hours drive from civic, it is definitely worth a trip. The staff members are kind, considerate and knowledgeable. The main house is interesting and there are loads of outer buildings to have a look at. Great for those looking for either a trip out to a farm or... More

An easy drive from Canberra and well worth the trip. While Lanyon is still a working property the homestead is managed as a museum and it is well worth your time to have a look inside. The out buildings are also very interesting as are the gardens. Together they paint a very informative picture of what it was like in... More

Beautiful house and grounds. Well worth the visit, and plan to spend a good part of the day. Fascinating look back into the colonial past in the ACT.

Lanyon Homestead and surrounds, a lovely spot. Walk around the vegetable garden and the exterior of the homestead to see well managed gardens. The cafe is quaint, being in an old building with small windows.

The homestead was built at 2 times - the first part in 1860, the 2nd in 1905 (I think I have the dates right!). Each is decorated and furnished accordingly. Our volunteer guide was fantastic (a lovely English lady on Wed 26 Oct; I'm sorry I don't remember your name, but I do remember your wonderful tour). You pay to... More

Worth the drive out of Canberra about 30 minutes. Lovely rolling countryside with great views. An interesting and impressive homestead with displays on the families who lived there and the convicts and workers who worked there.

We drove down to this homestead having read about it in TripAdvisor and were delighted to find a beautiful, historic homestead with an enthusiastic volunteer who showed us through the property and gave us plenty of insight into its past. The rooms are beautifully presented and the countryside around, all green and lush after the rain, was picture perfect. The... More

It is a working homestead. If you like history there is plenty here. Built in two stages, the 1905 bathroom is very modern. The gardens are gorgeous. There is a cafe so you can have a meal or snack.
