- Pradhip S6 contributionsBeautiful, Breathtaking, Challenging! The beach and the view is every bit beautiful as the pictures say. The way to get there is pretty challenging makes the beach the ultimate reward when you get there. Know your physical fitness, wear good shoes, climb slowly and carefully. take a liter of water in your backpack. The water was perfect, it was a little rough. Great photo opportunities. The hike down is 25 mins and the hike up is another 40 mins. The hike up is definitely really difficult and will test your physical fitness.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 17 September 2023
- Martin G.Bristol, United Kingdom123 contributionstop locationOne of the most beautiful places outside Bali. Only about 40 minutes boat ride from Sanur. Nusa Penida should be on every traveller's list. Amazing places to snorkel with Manta Rays and places to visit on land. Kelingking and Broken Beach are the best. Sexy Taxi Tours on Penida and Bob Marley is the best.Visited September 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 19 September 2023
- Neja F1 contributionBeautiful beach worth the climb, but be careful and don’t wear flip flopsWe (a group of 8 friends) took a ferry from Serangan pier - it took about 1.5 h to Nusa penida and about 50 mins back. Then we rented scooters nearby and had a really nice drive to Kelingking beach. It was a nice view from the top, but looking down some of friends scared and didn’t want to go down to the beach (as 90 % of people) and one was scared of heights. Me and two friends went down anyway. The path is very very steep which makes it especially hard to walk/climb downhill. You sometimes have to wait for people going up as there is enough space only for one person on the path. You get dirty, dusty and scared for your life. However, when you come down it is totally worth it! The beach is not crowded, there is some nice shadow, you can buy some drinks and refresh in the sea (even though the current is too strong for swimming). Path down took us about 40 mins, but we were up in 20 - it is much easier to go up. If you only have limited time (one day trip) know that with hiking to the beach you will probably only have enough time to see this one beach (we were driving to Crystal bay afterwards but we only stayed there a couple of minutes - the beach is not as beautiful as Kelingking). Also on the way back the roads were crazy busy with cars and it was hard to ride the scooters. We managed to find one empty road so we could safely return to the pier. It was a fun trip overall :) Ps. Don’t wear flip flops or sandals for hiking to the beach! You will have to walk barefoot sooner or later. Bring sneakers.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 8 October 2023
- Ingrid BThailand19 contributionsBest View of BaliKelingking beach absolutely lived up to all of the hype that it received on Instagram; this beach is incredible. The views were like something out of a movie, both from the cliffs that looked out over the water and from the trail that led down to the beach. It can get fairly heated, so going early in the day is highly recommended if you want to avoid the crowds. The island of Nusa Penida is well worth the time and effort required to get there. If you want to get a better look at this T-rex, climb a little higher up on the hill. There are various photo shooting spots available for you to snap the greatest photos, but in order to access, you will need to purchase some refreshments or food first. Sadly, there is trash scattered throughout the bushes in every direction. We can only hope that those who go there and those who are responsible for running and maintaining those locations become more aware of it.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 24 October 2023
- Tika WJakarta, Indonesia13 contributionsBest Beach in BaliOutside of Bali, this is one of the most beautiful spots in the world. Every traveller ought to make a point of visiting Nusa Penida. Amazing locations on land and in the water to snorkel with manta rays and other marine life. The most enjoyable ones are Kelingking and Broken Beach.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2023
- brian cDubai, United Arab Emirates1,009 contributionsKeep it the way it isThe steps leading to the beach is a task not to be taken lightly & is not for those who are not active …. The initial steps are well done but after a bit it gets challenging & tricky. If u instead to go down to the beach make sure u have plenty of water & a min 1 hr break before you climb back to the top. Take time to find your breath and don’t carry unwanted things. Wish they leave the step the way they are, never improve them … make it more difficult so less ppl can go down…. Sometimes should be left along … or else we will destroy it. Beautiful & clean beachVisited November 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 18 November 2023

- Peter Joseph KuhnBali, Indonesia114 contributionsA must go to if you’re on Nusa Penidaafter a 30 min boat ride from mainland Bali we rented motorbike and Checked into our bungalow. We rode another 45 minutes to get this magical beach where people come from all over the world to take pictures here and you’ll see why. To get down to the beach itself, you have to take bit of a treacherous hike down a steep mountain. However there’s handrails to help guide you so you don’t die. Even for my fitness level, there are parts that are really challenging After the hike down you are rewarded with heaven on earth. The beach itself is also Another great photo opportunity, and there’s not many people. However there are huge waves so if you’re not that fit I wouldn’t recommend going into the ocean. As the sun started to set we began our hike back up the cliff side, but a the same time still snapping shots of the sunset. When you arrive at the top, you’re rewarded with another picturesque paradise and another great photo opportunity to catch the sunset.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 17 February 2024
- Martyboy_BrusselsBrussels, Belgium87 contributionsWell worth the climbYou’ve all seen the views from the top but not that many people venture down to the beach. But you should do! Okay it looks like a scary climb but take it slowly and it’s actually much easier than it looks. The beach is simply lovely and as most people are scared by the climb it’s not that full. When we visited there were no more than 20 people on the beach and we were proud that we were the only ones in our 50s who had dared to make the climb! Go early in the morning if you can. There were a lot more people making the trip down when we were climbing back up.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 May 2024
- Munir DToronto, Canada704 contributionsStay Quiet and let beauty do the talking here. The Kelingking Beach offers stunning panoramic views and crystal-clear turquoise waters. It's a popular spot for photography and hiking down to the beach. It’s unique cliff formation resembles the shape of a T-Rex dinosaur. This distinctive cliff has made the beach a popular spot for photography. The hike down the steep and rocky cliff to reach the beach is challenging. The hike takes around 30-40 minutes, but the stunning views along the way make it worth the effort. This is not for young children. Currents in the sea are strong and one has to be a very good swimmer to swim here. Great place in Bali that is simply wonderful to see.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 4 July 2024

Climb up a bit to the hill to get the full picture of this T-rex. There are some photo taking spot for you to take the best spot but you need to buy drinks or food to enter.
Sadly you can see rubbish all around the bushes. Hopefully people who visit there or who ever run and taking care that places can be more aware about it.

Stunning views, can get very busy.
We visited via a private tour using Warung Coconut, great value tour and extremely helpful guide. It is quite a steep trek down to the actual beach if you decide to venture down. The views from the cliffs above are absolutely beautiful. There are a selection of cafe bars at the top. Well worth a visit if you are on the island. The roads are very narrow to get there, so highly recommend using a private tour.

Kelingking Beach is arguably one of the most popular stops on Nusa Penida. It is located on the southwest coast of the island (about a 30-minute drive from Toya Pakeh Harbour).
You have to pay a fee of 5,000 IDR for parking, which can be chaotic dependent upon how many other vehicles are there at the same time.
It’s then about a five minute walk, along a well worn but rough path - which has a series of shacks, selling hats, food, coconuts and ice cream, to the coastal cliff.
The view from the top provides the most enchanting views of the island's coastline, where steep cliffs are greeted by crystal blue water. The safety at Kelingking is reliant on the bamboo railings. At many points along the cliff edge, there is no rail whatsoever and the grass just leads you off the edge, down hundreds of metres onto the rocks. A trip to Kelingking Beach can last anywhere from 10 minutes, if you are just there to take photos or have an Instagram moment, to over 3 hours, if you are up for the intense hike down (takes about 60 mins to get down to the beach and slightly longer to get back up). Whilst the beach looked so inviting the climb down and back looked exhausting.
It is a spectacular view, which you share with hundreds of other tourists, but if you’ve travelled all the way to Nusa Penida then this is one of those iconic spots you need to visit.

One of the best spots in Nusa Penida. Amazing views, make sure to get there early. Luckily we got there around 10 am and there was no queue, only a few people walking up and down. Make sure to take some comfortable shoes. We took flip flops and we had to be very careful. If you are looking to go all the way down to the beach it will take you around 30/40 minutes so be prepared for the time of your life. The stairs going down are very narrow and you have to watch your step. The stairs are pretty crowded with people coming up and going down. If you are afraid of heights or if you don't have good balance I wouldn't recommend. This does require some level of fitness but once you get down, you will encounter the most amazing sand. Just watch out for the waves as they are very strong and they can pull you in. I would not recommend swimming in these waters. Perfect place for those Instagram pics!

We have long wanted to visit this magnificent place. Be prepared for the fact that it is very hot here.
We really enjoyed the view of cool colors of water and nature. There are a lot of tourists here, and sometimes you have to wait if you want to make a photo at some points. Also you can go down to the beach, but it's a hard way and we did it.

This is probably, if not the most hyped place in Nusa Penida in particular and Bali in general. Having seen this particular sight multiple times in pics and videos across various platforms we were worried if it will impact our experience. Thankfully it didn't and there is nothing like viewing it yourself up close. We didn't go down to the beach but did enjoy the views from above and it is breathtaking to say the least. We reached around 10:30-11 am when it was too crowded. A must visit nonetheless!

Very stunning view from the top but never risk your life to go down the cliff to get to the beach. I do not recommend people ever take a chance to go down.
It wasn’t pleasant experience. After halfway It get extremely difficult getting down and getting up 10x times harder. No hand railing at the bottom part and very stiff 90 degrees.
Never take your child please!!!!!

This place has absolutely great view. As this place is far, I would advise to try hiring a driver instead of driving a scooter as this is the safest option.
To see the cliff with your own eyes and experience the height is absolutely worth it. Then we decided to go to beach so we can swim in beautiful blue sea and play in the white sand. Trail gets too steep and there are no longer steps, you are from that point on literally rock climbing down an almost upright cliff. Wearing a shoe for this hike is a must. After finally reaching the bottom, it was all still beautiful, but the sea was also rough, high waves and strong tide, so it was hard to relax in the sea. In the beach there was only one small place selling some drinks and snacks. Overall, it was definitely very beautiful, the view and scene was amazing. The challenge is a bit hard but worth it and we all felt great after doing all this. I would give it 5 stars if only it was better maintained (stairs and facilities). Otherwise its beautiful.

It was last year when I visited Nusa Penida, Bali. At that time I thought Kelingking Beach is only beautiful at photos. I wasn’t expecting too much, but when me and my family arrived at Kelingking Beach I was speechless and it’s beyond my expectation! such an unforgettable memories and it’s an honor to me that I can visit this place, I would recommend you 1000000/10 to visit this place someday! even tho the weather is hot, but it doesn’t matter!
You also can swim at the beach by walking down the stairs and maybe it will take for about 30 minutes to reach the beach. But trust me, it’s all worth it!

Hi, just wondering if the walk can be done in thongs (flip flops) or sandals or would I need proper inclosed running shoes? or possibly sneakers okay? thanks

Hi!
I did it in Flipflops / Thongs but it’s definitely not recommendable! On the uphill I went barefoot which was ok. But proper shoes are a good choice here.

When we were there , a young man jumped in after warning,
after that he needed help to come out! I think not everybody thinks like that to help him after a warning but there are still good people. Lucky him!
You can swim maybe in the morning if there is not too much currents and keep in mind for any undercurrents which you can not see.

If we charter a private boat from Serangan harbour, can the dingy feasibly take us to shore on Kelingking beach?

You may get down from the top on your own but again it's a difficult task and will take 2hrs to complete the activity.

How dangerous is the hike down to the beach? Is it like cliffhanger or mountain climbing? Or is there a decent trail??
Written 13 August 2018
Hello, this not a very decent trail. You have to be careful in each step. But doable in about 2 hours and at times you descent is very steep and on boulders and mostly no hand rail to support. If you are careful and have a good pair of walking shoe with full grip, you will enjoy going down. Since you will find very few people taking the steps downward, you should go with few friends and not alone. But doable. Please carry water bottle with some glucose to give you energy during the climb.
