only 1 bullock cart for whole day not enuf. Had to return frm gate
Dec 2018 • Family
Was a disappointment for me. Visited Dec 2018. As we had a toddler, we reached a bit late at 12:45 noon. The person incharge told us there is only 1 bullock cart that has gone in early morning and not come out as yet. On sundays there are 3 bullock carts and weekdays only 1. We waited for 15 mins and returned back without going in, as we had a 4 yr kid with us and did not want to walk so much. Request authorities to keep a few more bullock carts during peak seasons.

I went to Phansad Bird Sanctuary. Though referred to as a bird sanctuary, the Phansad Bird Sanctuary also houses many amphibians, insects and mammals. This one isn't flocked with people and hence is a quiet and calm place to visit. It is great place to go.

PBS...A must visit Bird sanctuary during monsoons.
Aug 2018 • Family
Visited PBS on 17/8/18...Its about 170 kms from Mumbai, at Phansad Village near Roha. Its totally a green belt, This bird sanctuary covers an area of. 70 kms, appox. Its has a variety of birds/squirrel/,reptiles etc. However due to the dense rains , only the sounds could be heard, The forest area is thick, It also has some wild animals, like boars/pigs/dogs etc....Since vehicles are not allowed, inside the sanctuary, covering the entire sanctuary is difficult on foot, as its quite a steep and zig zag climb..There is a cafeteria inside.for snacks..
Overall Park/nature it at the best during Rains ..A must visit for green belt lovers.

Not so good
Jan 2018 • Friends
This wildlife sanctuary is located on a hill and very far away from Alibaug. The entry ticket is around Rs 30. Parking charges are 100 Rs for car and 50 for a bike.

There isn't much to explore if you are traveling without the guide. The worst thing about this sanctuary is overpriced bullock cart. They charge Rs 500 per bullock cart. They take you through 6 km dense forest. And it sounds very loud that all animals and birds run away. Just for a day break you can go to Phansad!

Excellent weekend getaway for nature lovers
Dec 2017
We visited this Phansad sanctuary in December 2017. The drive from Mumbai is ~165 km. Though it isn't the shortest route, it is better to take the road via Roha since the road via Alibag is very badly maintained.

About the Sanctuary - This place is not just a bird sanctuary as the name suggests. It also has a small population of a few animals and snakes, though sighting is rare. In the sanctuary, there are a couple of locations to which one can go for a hike. The distance is 10-12 km to and fro. You can also opt for a bullock cart in case you aren't keen on walking. However the hikes are not very arduous and the cart ride is quite bumpy. Hence I would recommend that you go for a hike if you have moderate level of fitness. The forest is pretty scenic and the walk is enjoyable. The best places for watching birds are Chikhal gaan, Phansad gaan and Savrat lake. We could spot the following birds - White eyed buzzard Common Hoopoe, Shikra, Asian Paradise Flycatcher, White browed Bulbul, Plum headed parakeet, Crimson backed sunbird, Brown headed barbet, Racket tailed Drongo and a few more common ones.

Accommodation - The Authorities have arranged for some basic tents (INR 500/- per day) and also a couple of AC tents (I think ~INR 1600 per day). There also are some home stays in a nearby village which one can opt for. The facilities are quite basic.

Food - The local village folk operate a canteen where they offer delectable homemade food for meals as well as snacks and breakfast. Both non-veg and non-veg food is equally good. However the food is of local cuisine only.

Overall, If you like spending time at remote places you will surely like this one. I would surely recommend this place for a weekend getaway.

Paisa Vasool Visit

I visited to Sanctuary on last weekend and spent 3 days and i must say it is awesome place to stay. They have tents available at just rs 500/day having all facilities attached toilets and inside a tent fan, bed and bed sheets.
It is good place if you are trek lover and you are bird lover or want to explore the forest. At night temperature goes down.
Regards to food it is available inside at cheapest cost.
Any one can spend 2 -3 days easily if you are peace & jungle lover. :)

PS : It is good to have own vehicle as the sanctuary is little far & with your own vehicle you reduce the dependency on the other local transportation.

Excellent for Enthusiasts
Apr 2017 • Solo
Phansad is one of the less explored wildlife sanctuary. It used to be the hunting grounds of the Siddhis. My review is based on an interaction with few guys who frequently been visiting this place past 10 years. There is no Safari available inside the park. You either have to take a walk inside or bullock carts are offered. It's a place for nature enthusiasts. According to locals, not much of a wildlife is inside though you can spot leopards, deer etc. if lucky.

Place offers tents for an accommodation. Very calm place. Must visit if you are tired of daily hectic life.

Recent Visit to Phansad
Jan 2017 • Family
Hello People,
Recently visited Phansad Sanctuary, First of all to correct its not just bird sanctuary, Its Wild life sanctuary.

It is a wonderfull place to visit and relax with family, Also MTDC have tent based accomodation which you can book. The mobile network is very poor, any operator you take. If you are planning to stay in tent then only Pls. reach in evening, or Pls. plan to reach early morning, enjoy and return back. Dont travel in night as the roads have no street lights and the roads have very sharp turns.
Inside the dense forest you have option to explore through bullock cart, which is a hefty ride. I would suggest its atleast once a visit place for people in Mumbai and Pune.

Phansad - A Weekend getaway!!
Dec 2016 • Family
Pune - Phansad - Kashid - Pune.

Visited Phansad on 17th Dec. Stayed at this sanctuary along with my family (5 adults and 2 kids).

Route followed:
Pune - imagica theme park (18.768671, 73.284537), Roha (18.440965, 73.118426), Talekar and take left (18.443501, 72.983851) and reach Phansad (easy to locate at your right)

Stay:
The sanctuary has 7 tents( Rs 500) and a A/c whitehouse (Rs1600). the location was good (very dense forest) and every tent had clean toilets attached. Only in one tent the toilet was nearby - however for the other tents we need to walk bit in the dark to reach the toilets. The bath had a heater too. The tents has electricity.
Location is good - safe and secure. Managed very well by the women villagers with top class hospitality. After booking, We went to Kashid beach and reached back to the tent at 7pm. We could not get the tent we requested, yet the courteous staffs arranged us another house (needs 200m walking into the village) to provide a very comfortable accommodation with attached baths and toilet. However we need to come back to the sanctuary for the food. The room offered was very neat and clean.

Food:
For the dinner we had ordered chicken thali (no fish though), the taste was good. Morning breakfast was ok (but limited options). tea, coffee and milk are available along with purified drinking water.

Next day morning we took few family snaps and got back to Pune on the same route.

Total Expenses :
expy toll - Rs 146 + 146
Fuel - Rs 1500
Breakfast at Hotel Mayuri (near imagica) : Rs 600
Room Rent : Rs 650
Food (1 dinner and 1 breakfast) : Rs 900
Few more expenses @ Kashid (not mentioned here)

The location is best suited for the forest / wildlife lovers. Booking contact: 022 - 25402522 (yes Mumbai !! - they will guide u).
Best Itinerary (2 day) would be:
Leave early from Pune (i covered Dagdusheth mandir), reach Phansad (11.30am) - Pre book tent / room and dinner, leave to Murud - Janjira (enjoy fort / boating / lunch) - visit sunset at Kashid beach or any nearby beach - reach back to Phansad for dinner and stay. next day early morning (@7am) visit the sanctuary (for bird watching) and by 9.30am have breakfast. Packup and back to Pune at 11 and reach home at 4pm.

Road condition:
Road was good and was less traffic (on weekends). Few rough patches (less than 10km) after Roha but manageable. Good single lane road to sanctuary was indeed a surprise (need to wait when there is an approaching vehicle).

Overall good - experience. Had good time spent with the family. Best weekend location and with low budget.

Note: Kashid and Murud are bit far away from here (30 / 40mins) and hence need better planning.
