We are an elderly couple. The Kedarnath Badrinath trip was a trip we had been putting off, as we wanted to go with a group that was not just another travel company. Till we heard from an Isha Foundation volunteer in Nagpur, where we belong, and listening to her we were convinced that this was what we had been waiting for. My husband enrolled us for their end September trip and we started with the medical tests and other requirements- participants had to do the Inner Engineering course and the Sambhavi Kriya.
We were looking forward to the journey with a like minded group of people and anticipated well organised visitations to the holy places- Gangotri, Kedarnath Dham and Badrinath Dham.

There were initial hiccups with our coordinator from Isha clueless about our submission of medical reports etc. Being senior citizens we got a tad bit nervous but were reassured by our local Isha people that we had made the best decision of our lives.

Our journey from Delhi to Haridwar was good. We reached by early evening and were assigned our duffel bags ( which was to be our luggage for the next 10 days), our name tags, room keys etc. The Isha volunteers had these organised and we retired for the time being to freshen up for evening Satsang.
Since we are not with Isha, but admire Sadhguru, we had no idea what Satsang would involve. We watched some videos and there was some chanting, after which the leader for the trip , one Ms Gayatri, gave the next days instructions. Her voice was so low, even with the microphone, that the fans were switched off. It was kind of funny, a sweaty, claustrophobic 45 mins, which in my mind was supposed to be a spiritual experience.
Our fellow travelers were extremely cooperative and slowly we learnt that they were all involved with Isha deeply. They were very nice people and both of us felt that for this reason alone our decision to have the Sacred Walk with Isha Foundation had been a good decision. Apart from the beautiful souls we had for our companions, the next team that made the journey very very comfortable was the food vendor, very well selected by Isha. The way they made sure to have piping hot, nutritious, tasty food, three times a day, was the only reason we could make it through the very hectic 10 day program, where you got up every day at 2.30 am and if lucky reached your place of stay by 9 pm in the evening.

If you ask me , will I go with Isha Foundation again, I will say No. I will advise senior citizens not to travel with them. Not because there is anything wrong about the Foundation. What is wrong with the whole program is that they have forgotten their core competence and dived into something where they do not have any expertise or skill. The volunteers from Isha May have been well meaning, but they failed at each step. From organising rooms for the 250 people, to having prior knowledge of the terrain, to informing properly about the schedule. While the rest of them did try their best to overcome their shortcomings, Ms Gayatri proved to be condescending, rude and over that incompetent.
We were taken by surprise when she knocked on our door and said we were occupying her room, when we had already been assigned the key. We faced worst in a Dharmshala at Badrinath, where a room was allotted to us, was having a toilet whose sewage was over flowing in the toilet with unbearable stench. On informing Ms Gayatri, she simply says “please adjust”!
In Kedarnath when we trickled in slowly, all at different times, there was absolutely no one to guide us to our rooms.
Last but not the least, while Sacred Walk is a religious trip and no one goes with expectations of luxury, the rooms , apart from in Haridwar, were extremely substandard. Functional is fine but not unclean. It would be nice if Isha charges more and provides better service. If we can pay 55 K per person, we can also give 75 K per person.

My humble request to Isha Foundation- do what you do best; get good vendors and skilled people. Your volunteers are just that- they are volunteering, they have no idea about what needs to be done.

Ethereal and heavenly. Stay in gmvn for best stay.
Only thing helicopter is a big scam if you don't go through someone at the top you ll never get it.
Palki if you get up and down is govt rate. But if you get only 1 way..the Palki wallahs charge exorbitant rates to come down to Gaurikund. Becomes costlier than taking a helicopter. Also from Gaurikund the lines are 3 km long to take a shared jeep to Sonprayag.
But the journey to kedar and the temple itself has to be experienced once in a life time. There was even a dosa shop near the temple premises for the South Indians.

Kedarnath dham is one of the four chota chardham and one of the 12 jyothirlingas in India. Its a shiva temple built by the panavas near riverandakini. The nearest place whete one can have accommodation is gourikund there is a hotspring pond where one can take a holy dip. Its about 20km trek to the temple from gourikund. Accommodation is also available at kearnath where the cost will be on the higher side. Horse, dolly etc are also available. The experience of reaching there through the beautiful mountains amidst waterfalls itself is a life fulfilling experience. Thereis a bairav temple just one km.away. sankaracharya statue recently inaugurated can be seen just behind the temple. The temple town was completely distroyed during 2013 flods and is in the process of rebuilding.

In continuation my first trip to kedarnath shrine in May-2019, I was fortunate to visit this shrine once again on 31st May22.

Though it was my second visit I had the same thrill, pleasure and satisfaction as in the first visit.

This is certainly the most divine place to visit. The natural beauty of this place is beyond explanations. Surrounded by the Himalayas around this shrine is further decorated with the flow of river Mandakini .

The main deity is Lord Shiva in the form of a bull hump naturally formed. Situated at a height of approx 3500 mts MSL it is the highest among 12 jyotirlingas..

Due to recent developments there are various attractions in this shrine such as newly constructed statue of AADHI SANKARACHRYA, improved BHEEM SHILA area etc..

In view of my age I reached here through direct Heli charter service from Dehradun.

The weather here is mostly uncertain with sudden rains, snow falls and chilly winds. we were lucky to have good weather. The regular approach to this temple is only by steep trekking of 18kms from Gaurikund in Sone prayag. Ponies. dollies etc are also available for the service of the pilgrims. The other alternative is to avail Heli-shuttle services from helipads such as Gupt kasi / Phata/ Sersi etc.

In spite of the hardships faced to reach this shrine the pilgrims continue to increase which explains the attraction of this temple. This year VIP darshans were banned by UK govt.

In short it was a pleasant, satisfying and fulfilling experience. One must try to visit here at least once in their life.

one of the serenest places i have ever seen. the air has an spiritual element in it. the origin of the Mandakini river there serves as the icing on the cake. weather is very unpredicatable there. in order to avoid huge rush, visit the shrine in april or october. the climb is steep so better take the choppers.

Its a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located at Himalayan range near Mandakini river. It is at an altitude of over 3500 mts. We took helicopter from Gupt Kashi. Weather needs to be good for copter takeoff and landing. The dharshan was wonderful. Quite an awesome experience for devout Hindu. Because of extreme weather, it is open only between Apr & Nov.
