Melba's Chocolate Factory is a 'working' tourism factory located in a heritage listed complex 40 minutes from Adelaide at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills. From 1919 the South Australian Farmers Cooperative Union made the site famous by producing cheese, butter, margarine and small goods, which were recognised worldwide. This activity ceased in 1976. From that year, the buildings lay abandoned until 1990 when the current proprietors and directors, Joy and Graeme Foristal arrived. With 1940's era chocolate and confectionery making equipment, they began their dream making old Australian favourite chocolate and confectionery. The complex developed from there and is now known as 'Heritage Park' and has become home to other cottage industries. Visitors today find the old cheese factory transformed into a large emporium styled confectionery factory shop. This is a centerpiece for 5 different rooms, where various manufacturing processes can be viewed. These are the Chocolate Room, Depositing Room, Packing Room, Panning Room and Toffee Room. Visitors are encouraged to speak to the staff who have mastered the use of the heritage equipment, making old fashioned favourites in the time honoured tradition. Old favourites such as, Inch Licorice Block, Traffic Lights and Rocky Road. To tempt chocolate lovers, there is the constant aroma of chocolate and confectionery being made.....yum! An additional interesting feature is the collection of antique and quaint memorabilia from times past, which can be found on display around the factory walls. All in all, this package makes the factory a popular family attraction as well as a significant Hill's destination for families, groups, charters and interstate, national and international visitors.

Excellent chocolate, and a great drive. Came up with 2 of my nieces from WA, and did a little tourist work. Free samples are great, and found that all Easter chocolate was at 50% off. What a bargain, make sure you visit, you won't be sorry.

So much to choose from. Great to see a lot of the different processes involved in achieving the final products. Would have been nice to have more samples, especially of the more interesting flavour combinations - probably would have resulted in more purchases.

This is a classic example of don't judge a book by its cover. Tucked away up a little road in Woodside you will find the old factory that holds a sweet and very delicious surprise. To step into here is to step back in time, a time where things are still done primarily by hand, to an exceptional high quality... More

Was directed to visit there and enjoy it as a stop over for going to other places around. Nice stroll and amazing selection. Good little side tasters too. Good for buying gifts at prices that reflect quality and variety levels for things never seen covered in chocolate before.

Called here whilst being on our travels round Adelaide. Great factory and shop. Lots of free samples. Recommend the turkish delight. Then next door head into the cheese factory for more samples.

This is mainly just a large sweet store where you can see into some of the factory areas. The chocolate was really well priced and tasted good so ended up buying a lot.
