In Calvinistic Netherlands this castle stands out in its luxury. The central hall is amazing. The gardens are large and very inviting, allowing for the weather, for a picnic. If one only does one castle visit in NL then pick this one

What a spectacular example of a restoration project. Amazing! It is by far not the oldest castle you can visit, but it is so worth a visit - even on a miserable day. Lots of well-informed volunteer guides are stationed throughout. The gardens are beautiful, including in the middle of winter.

Beautiful place to go. Rain or shine. No expense was spared when this castle was reconstructed. The details are wonderful. We took the 16:00 tour, if you can go earlier do so, we felt a bit rushed with going through the castle. There is so much to see, it’s nice to not have to rush before the castle closes at 17:00. Gardens/park are also worth the visit. There is a maze at the rear of the garden. When the beechwood are full in their leaves it is a challenge to fine the swan.

Far exceeded our expectations. Beautiful grounds and an interesting restoration of the castle showcasing just what money can buy. The volunteers in each of the rooms were keen to share their knowledge and wit (In several languages) The only slight downside was the booking process. Having only decided to visit that day I went online to book tickets but there were no time slots available for the castle. I then telephoned to ask about availability on the door but was told that there was nothing available. I then booked tickets just for the grounds but on arrival found that I could purchase tickets for the castle contrary to what the lady on the phone had advised. Would loved to have had a drink and a bite to eat but both of the cafes were full to bursting.

This castle is quite interesting as an example of what is possible when the owner has a lot of time and money on their hands. The architecture and furnishings are exquisite to the point that your eyes will blur and you don't know what to look at. The gardens are beautiful too especially during spring season. I'd just warn that people who are claustrophobic might find the narrow stairs and basement area hard to visit as it's a small enclosed space made of solid stone.

This castle has very nice options to tour the gardens and the castle itself. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and can tell you about the role in history and significance this castle and its owners played in shaping Dutch society and surrounding area. Great place to have an indoor and outdoor experience. You are able to also visit the beautiful city of Haarzuilens nearby.

Absolutely loved it! A beautiful castle with gorgeous gardens around. In each room is a special guide who are all very kind and can tell you everything you want to know about the room or the castle if you like. Would very much recommend going here! Well worth the price and the time.
