We had to go up this way from Christchurch to Blenheim as Route 1 up the Coast is closed due to the Earthquake. Nice scenic drive, twisty and windy but Scenic. Problem is they had the Road shut down to one lane about every 10km's...More
The Lewis Pass sits at an altitude of about 900mts. It follows a beautiful river bed on the flat and then climbs steeply through beautiful forest.
While scenic, the road is very narrow and windy so care needs to be taken.
