- RoyBelgium23 contributionsNice calm hikeIt was a cloudy day at the coast, but when we arrived at the starting point, no clouds and sunny weather… maybe it was a bit too hot for a hike (30C), but we had enough water with us, sun protection, good shoes etc. All this is advised. We payed 3€ for the parking (keep the ticket and you can come back for free for the rest of the year), which is a reasonable price, and started the short trail, and it was a astonishing hike. Breathtaking views, and nice rocky route. I read some comments about the trail markings…. our 6y old guided the route with no issues, so I’m not sure if they changed anything but is was crystal clear! If you’re a geo-cacher… check your app, there’s a world cache on the track and some small caches to collect.Thank you for your comment roye60 ! - HUNTINGPARTYSevenoaks, United Kingdom543 contributionsHot but beautifulHave been staying in the area for many years and this was our fist time at Moureze. The weather was extremely hot and although we were prepared even the short walk was tough. The early part of the route was well marked but we struggled to find the split point between the short and long walks. It didn't matter (we had Pocket Earth) as we found some trails and made our way into the village. Will definitely come back when the weather is cooler.Thank you HUNTINGPARTY for your comment. - louxxashLondon, United Kingdom27 contributionsGreat scenic walkWe arrived on a very hot day, parked for €3 with the ticket valid until the end of the year for return visits. There are toilets just beyond the car park and the start of the walk. There is a map which is quite confusing, not really distinguish between the short and long walk. We followed the yellow stripe markers quite easily however, the way not to go clearly marked with yellow crosses. Is a bit of a scramble in places but nothing difficult. Spectacular rock formations and views along the way. Quite cool in the mountains which was a pleasant relief from the heat. Eventually you come to a signpost directing you back to the village 1km or the longer walk. We took the path to the village and a lovely cafe serving beer and coffee, another round the corner serving food. The village is beautiful and definitely worth a walk round too.on the way back to the car park is a restaurant which was closed when we visited. Will definitely return to complete the longer walk.Hi louxxash. Thank for your comment. On the map you can find the separation point between the circuits, at the number 3 and the little speech to the right of the map. On-site indicator signs allow you to make your circuit without stress. If you need some informations our tourist office is actually open every day between 9:30am to 4:30 pm or you can consult our website www.destination-salagou.en See you soon in our territory. The Cirque De Moureze is a natural park of limestone rocks eroded by wind and water over millions of years, yielding unusual and eccentric shapes. We hiked the easy yellow-trail (Route des Courtinals) which starts at the visitor centre and ends in the village of Moureze. It took us a little over an hour. The signposting certainly has cope for improvement. Great trek, must-do when in the area.

Cirque de Mourèze is a natural place with rock formations located in the surroundings of the homonymous town near Clemont l'Herault, in Occitanie Region, in the South of France. It is possible to do two hikes in the place, the easier, about 3km long, and the other one, which is more difficult and you go up to some mountains. We did the easier way, where you can see a lot of rock formations and wonderful views of the town (Mourèze). Very nice hike, very nice town and surroundings.

The walk and views are all 5* but we drop a * for the way marking. If you drive into Moureze from the East (on the D8E1A) and park at the walk start parking (3 euro), situated before the town, and make your way along the cirque de Moureze walk up to the ridge you get fabulous views of lake Salagou at the ridge top. At this point as it was getting late we decided to walk back along our route rather than complete the cirque. This is where the marking is plain bad. All the walks have the same yellow horizontal marks on the trees and rocks to show the way. We followed these yellow marks for our return journey which ended up in Liausson on the wrong side of the ridge. To take us back to the car park it cost us 50 euro by a kindly taxi driver who came from Clermont l'Herault. We were not his first first tourists needing a taxi help and his taxi friends have the same experiences. The marks should be different for taking you to different sides of the mountain. The walk was great.

It was a harder hike than we thought, but most enjoyable, the views were fantastic. And we enjoyed a coffee and cake in the village. Also the local jams.

Well worth a visit. The rock formations are spectacular. The path winds in and out, up and down between the rocks. Some sections are steep and scrambly, so wear good walking shoes.

We did the shorter walk but we were not advised on footwear, fitness or sufficient information about the route. A diagrammatic map map makes Point 2 not too far from Point 3. In fact it’s a good 30- 40 min walk with narrow passages. However, it’s a great walk and a good achievement for anyone of 65+.

Finding the way out of the village was fun, and the view when we reached the centre of the Cirque was worth the struggle. We were helped by a local enthusiast. Several options are available according to fitness, shoe type and time.

Hi, Sharawagi, Do you know the name of the village you visited? There are several nearby. I'm trying to figure out which one you see at the start of the Cirque de Moureze video I see on youtube...Thanks!

Merci
