Five birders from the U.S., plus our South African guide, spent time here on our itinerary--once for two hours in the afternoon and the second time very early one morning. Both times, we were the only ones on the trail. We found birds here that we did not see elsewhere, such as the White-eyed Robin, Cape Parrot, and African Emerald... More

Having visited this Forest several years before I was mortified to see the state that the entrance office had degraded into. In fact nobody was even in the filthy Forest Reserve Front Office when we drove in, rather a scruffy bag, and unashamedly, was left outside the office asking for donations, which judging by the state of the immediate surroundings... This is a short walk for a hike and a long walk for birders. Huge amount of birds including the Knysna Loerie and the indangered Cape Parrot. This was our third visit and we were fortunate to see both.

We enjoyed the easy walk along the contour path through beautiful indigenous trees. Jack Molefe, a trained guide can be contacted on 0791571475. He is keen to help people enjoy their visit to the Forest. We bought a Haleria Lucida young tree from the Wildlands Tree nursery at Marutswa for our home garden. Martin and Hazel

Although the famed Cape parrots eluded us, we enjoyed a relaxing, easy walk through this beautiful forest. It was very sad to see that locals obviously abuse it by bringing in their cows from time to time. It will most certainly benefit from investment in the boardwalks and trails as it is a really beautiful spot.

The forest had all the birds we wanted to see, the paths are well maintained also the boardwalks, only negative was the stray rubbish. There was a team working at upgrading the reception and the nursery

There was NO toilets in use at all. Personnel wasn't very helpful. Maybe it was because of the bad weather that day! There was no maps available and we didn't feel very safe. So sorry about that because it is such beautiful area. Unfortunately we didn't see the Cape Parrot but at least we heard them call.

We didn`t get to see any parrots, Loo with a view was a disgrace (dirty), and we weren't even given a map. When I asked for one, they said they ran out, but I can look at the map on the window at the office, and just remember from that where to go?!?!??!?!!? They also DONT sell any refreshments there,... Saw a few parrots and birds nothing spectacular. See more at local bird park in Durban. Wife purchased some curios and the ablution facilities were clean.
