Overview

Norway’s second largest glacier, Svartisen, stretches over 370 km2 and has a full 60 glacier arms. One of the most famous glacial arms is Austerdalsisen in Rana Municipality. To reach the glacier arm, you may take a 20-minute boat trip over Svartisvatnet, followed by a 3 km hike to Austerdalsisen. You can experience this exciting landscape, which was covered by the glacier just a few decades ago. Austerdalsisen deposits crevassed ice into the water and ice cold glacial rivers. Whilst cruising

Amongst many many scenic spots you will see in this area once inside the Arctic Circle, is this Black Glacier. It is mighty and in a truly scenic spot.

Awesome trip

Went there early in the morning, short boatrip over an emerald green fjord, rented bikes for a short ride to the mountain and then walked/climbed to the ice. Stunning view..loved it. Bring good boots and you have to be in decent shape. A nice camping...More

"Exotic" site

We weren't sure what to expect from this location. We did this "ex tempore". First surprise was that boat trip could be paid only cash and second surprise was that they took €. 62€ for 2 adults and 2 kids. But everything was worthwhile indeed....More

Great view

Magic.

Be prepared for a hike

Day trip from Hurtigruten

Beautiful view of the glacier, and the joy of seeing sea eagles on the way back to the ship. Wonderful day, do visit.

Wow!!- What a sight

Thought it would be larger

As the second largest glacier in Norway!!Did sail to it on a Northern Lights cruise ,the sail up the fjord and passed the polar circle which was interesting .Beautiful valleys with rivers flowing down ,steep mountains and the coastline .Saw sheep being transported by boat.!!!
