Definitely worth a visit. We explored these ruins with a local guide. He told us quite a bit of history for the area and helped us envision what the area would have been like during Roman times. The site is well kept and has a small visitor's center. We enjoyed being able to explore at our own pace and not... More

A small but well preserved ruins of a roman villa. The guide map given on entrance is very informative and you get a great idea of how \ Roman villa would have been laid out.The guide map explains each part of the villa and how it was changed in use durign its history. It was very peaceful and atmospheric.

We very much enjoyed visiting this stunning Roman villa complex; it was amazing to walk around and inside these old buildings and we really liked the way the site is organised; very friendly staff at the reception

We decided to take our children here (on a Thursday morning - 9th of July). We made 45 minute journey from Beja. We found the site closed, despite having checked the opening hours before we went. We decided to inquire at the affiliated museum in the local village and received confirmation that the site indeed should be open. Unfortunately they... More

On a weekend outing from Beja, we happened upon these ruins outside the town of Vidigueira. While there are many Roman and Visigoth sites in the region, this is one of the most expansive. Entry is free the first Sunday of the month and at other times the fee is quite reasonable (2 euro I believe). If you enjoy spending... More

After stopping for refreshment in the pretty nearby working town of Vidigueira we arrived at the ruins about an hour before closing time. Apart from the receptionist the place was deserted. We anticipated a fairly routine walk around but suddenly we came upon the most amazing frescos on the ceiling of an old grain store. The excavations of the site... More

This well-presented archaaeological Roman villa site is now open to visitors: there is a comprehensible audio-visual presentation with detailed computer-graphic reconstructions of the site, etc. etc. The impressive Villa ruins were later re-used c. the 11th c.as a cult centre dedicated to Sao Cucufate. The ruins are not extensive and the visit might take about an hour....very interesting if in... More

Vila de Frades or Friar village is the closest place to this roman town. There is not a lot left from this roman town dating back to I BC. A temple transformed into church, house and gardens. It is the proof of the importance of the agriculture in this area many, many centuries ago that can be seen in the... More
