- Lori GAlbion, Indiana50 contributionsWell worth the drive from San Simeon. We are so glad we decided to venture north from San Simeon after having to bypass while exploring from north to south. After detouring along highway 101, we wound our way back north on Highway 1 and decided to go as far as Ragged Point. What a wonderful adventure - maybe our favorite of the whole trip! Ragged Point Inn was a cozy resort to explore and we enjoyed lunch at the restaurant. We can image staying at the resort would be a great getaway!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 December 2023
- Southwest_GauchoLake Havasu City, Arizona1,273 contributionsGreat Vista!Stopped in here on our way back down the PCH (highway closed about 25 miles north). Great views and a good place to stop and stretch your legs, use the restroom, get a bite to eat, or just visit. We were short on time so we didn't hike the trail of 1,000 steps down to the beach. Would definitely do so in the future. Staff at the gift shop were polite and friendly. Only complaint was that the bathrooms were a little rough.Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 May 2024
- Lady GigglemugMonrovia, California5,013 contributionsLovely stop along the PCH!Lovely scenic stop along the PCH as you make your way up from Cambria towards Big Sur. There’s a restaurant, gas station, great coffee shop, bathrooms, art work, some hiking and view points, and an inn all at this little stop area. I walked all the way to the back where there’s a lovely overlook with expansive Pacific Ocean views all along the cliffs and out as far as the eye can see! I even saw a sea otter hanging out with a sea gull - playing around in the waves together haha!! I think the gull was chasing him and gobbling up the otter’s leftovers lol. There’s another hiking trail on site down to the black sands of Young Creek Beach - but it’s a super steep hike down a 400 foot cliff and I wasn’t feeling it lol! But there are lots of nice seating areas overlooking the trail, beaches and cliffs so it’s still very enjoyable. I grabbed a coffee and some dessert at the coffee shop instead which I can highly recommend!! It was fantastic and the staff were wonderful (see my review for Ragged Point Coffee Shop & Bakery). At the time of my visit, it was about as far as you could go up the PCH to Big Sur bc the road further up is washed out but they’re working on it. Still a great little spot to explore - lots of parking and great views. I’d definitely consider staying at the inn next time!Visited January 2024Travelled soloWritten 10 August 2024

There was no WiFi. There was also no sms/mms service for my phone plan. I sleep to a sound bath every night and wasn’t able to access it. Had planned to return some correspondence over my break but had pretty much no access to the outside world unless I wanted to use their computers. The restaurant isn’t tied to the room so you can’t charge food to the room. The restaurant is also located a ways away so you have to walk through a windy parking lot to get there. Wished there was a map of the grounds on the website so I could understand the amount of going outdoors I would be doing. I had brought a fancy dress and stilettos for Christmas dinner. My room did have two hairdryers. Great views and loved falling asleep/waking up to the sound of the waves.

The location is fantastic!! Lovely views, nice hikes with unbelievable overlook, at the southern tip of Big Sur area (South of the area currently (2024) closed due to landslide). This review is about the restaurant at Ragged Point -- vs. the sandwich shop. Situated in a fabulous scenic spot, indoor and outdoor seating, with tasty seasonal California cuisine. The sandwich shop (where we usually go) is just adjacent with outdoor seating, but we were pleasantly surprised to find the restaurant is a very affordable and lovely alternative, better food and a lovely table.

This is a must stop on the PCH. We stopped going from Los Angeles to San Francisco for a quick bite. Ordered the Fish and Chips ($17), Cactus Salad ($16), Cup of Chowder ($5) and Curly Fries ($4.50). Food was good and the scenery just outstanding. You can try to go down the steep cliff, dangerous and slippery, but people were doing it. Would recommend and visit again. Maybe stay a night here.

We stopped off here last week while staying in Cambria. The weather was lovely, and we enjoyed hiking around the area. There's a nice looking resort here as well as restaurant and gift shop. The hike down to the beach is rough & not well-maintained. Be careful if you try it. Cool views!

We were all hungry on the road and thought it would be easy to find somewhere on PCH -not true and was even harder to find somewhere when cell service was non existent the entire drive. Pulled over to this oasis! We all had something from the snack bar -food was good but know that the entire place is cash only! Thankfully we had enough. And they had bathrooms -not the best but acceptable.

Ragged Point is about seven miles north of the Piedras Blancas light station in San Luis Obispo County in California. It offers some spectacular views of nature. Certainly worth stopping over for clicking pics and absorbing the natural views.

Ragged Point is a small town in Big Sur that is really just a rest stop featuring a nice hotel, restaurant, and gas station. The highlight of Ragged Point is the "Nature Trail" located behind the Ragged Point Inn. The trail is a series of steep switchbacks that lead down to a secluded black sand beach and large, cascading waterfall. This is one of the few places in Big Sur with coastal/beach access, as most of the time you cannot get down to the beach from the cliffs above. And it is one of the only black sand beaches in all of Big Sur. You don't need to be a hotel guest to hike the trail. If you've got 1-2 hours to kill and are looking for a short hike with a big reward, this is the place to stop.

What nights are available for an overnight stay in April?
Written 27 March 2017
Does the Ragged Point Inn have in room WiFi or other internet access?
Thanks
Written 22 August 2016
They do have wifi but the signal if very very weak in the rooms. You can get a better signal in the bar but still not great. To be fair you are in middle of nowhere and the reception staff do tell you that the signal is weak.
