What a great hike and history lesson about the Pt. Sur Lighthouse. Kevin and Eleanor were the guides for the day - we had Kevin. He was entertaining and full of knowledge! The views from the path leading to the lighthouse were breathtaking. We enjoyed getting to the top and chatting with the docents, as people drank hot cocoa and... More

Lighthouse tour was really nice. Views from on top of the mountain are breath taking!! Check their website for times and guidelines. During summertime, recommend arriving 45 minutes early to avoid being cut off from the tour capacity limitation. Paranormal activity abounds there so say the docents who volunteer to lead tours there!!

The lighthouse at Point Sur State Historic Park is well worth the walk. The volunteers who coordinate the tour have limited resources, so plan ahead and check tour times, so you are not disappointed, should you miss a tour.

We decided to detour our northern to Southern California trip by way of a coastal route, since neither of us had even been along Big Sur. It's one of the most beautiful drives I've ever been on in California, and I say that as a native who has lived here over half of my life. The water and cliffs are... More

Great experience and learning while hiking up to the top of the rock, but not having an option to leave in the middle was concerning. Our two young boys managed it fine, however, and listed the trip as a highlight in our mini vacation to Carmel.

Have been wanting to do this tour for YEARS and never had the opportunity. Was finally able to do this tour on May 4th with a couple of just amazing docents who obviously love what they do. The views are spectacular, the walk is long but our guides stopped several times along the way to explain the rocks, the navy... More

Point Sur lighthouse is located on a huge rock located on the Pacific Ocean just about 45 minutes south of Carmel and just a little north of Big Sur. Coming from Carmel, you come around a curve on Hwy 1 and get your first glimpse of the rock and of the lighthouse beacon. Tours are led twice a day in... More

they only have tours a few times per week so plan ahead and arrive early as they only take the 1st 40 people. the tour is 3 hours and walks you up the hill to the lighthouse and other buildings. I might add that it is quite a steep hill so wear comfortable shoes and dress in layers as it... More

It was a real treat being able to go to the Lighthouse. The tours are limited in time and the amount of people. The tours are run by volunteers who do a wonderful job. It is a walking tour up the side Point Sur to the lighthouse and structures at the top. Lots of history!

This is a great 3 hour tour of the lighthouse and associated buildings but it does get windy on the rock so wrap up even on a warm sunny day. We found the meeting point but there was some confusion about who was there first (max 40 admitted per tour) - we would advise you to park on the right... More
