Great, much better than a stone quarry!

On the outskirts of Montmaurin are these remains - accessable except to severely disabled- Toilets on site , Paying but free to students , Information available in English . Worth a visit if in area and like seeing how our ancestors had hot baths anf heated flooring we did not have in my childhood in the 50s!

I visited this site a few years ago and again found it a wonderful place to visit. It's unusual to find a site in this area that is well marked out, where one can experience what life was all about in Gallo Roman times. It is set in an area of very pretty countryside and you can have a guide... More

This is a real little gem of a site. At the time of our visit, we were the only people there, and were able to wander at leisure. We did not have a guide, but the information and map provided were sufficient to get us around. It is easy to use one's imagination and to picture life here as it... More

We had a guided tour, in French (!) which was very informative and gave us a real insight into how important this part of France was to the Romans. Not a lot to see but for an insight into the history of the region, well worth the modest admission price.

I have just moved nearby and decided to visit. It is set in beautiful surroundings and not difficult to imagine the gallo romans going aboout their daily lives. Around 350 BC it still gives off a gentle feeling of history and definitely worth a visit if you like history but not if you expect Disney World with shops selling plastic Roman... More

Site guides available in French and English allow your imagination to run wild. Few mosaics but ample structural foundations remain to permit a fanciful stroll through antiquity. Bring a picnic. There are a few picnic tables near by, but no other commerce.

I went to the Gallo-Roman villa ruins in Montmaurin today. Not sure what I was expecting but there is not much there. The foundations of the structure still exist as well as a few walls and some columns. It must have been quite a spending place in it's day. It was built around 350 AD so I guess the fact... More
