In the mining park of Riotinto you can do a different railway journey, penetrate into a mine, visit a real victorian house and know about the history of a totally transformed mining bowl. Everything at hand at the minig park of Riotinto.

Visited the museum followed by a train ride through the open caste mining area and then visited the Barrio Ingles. Very knowledgeable guide (Marco) with excellent english. The mining area surrounding the town is indescribably ugly and beautiful in equal measure. A fascinating glimpse of...More

Ugly and beautiful. Sad and astounding. We didn't have time to visit the museum or the Victorian house but we wouldn't have missed this for the world. It's ugly and sad because, if you take the train trip (and you should) you go through the...More

Train journey down the valley was great way to see industrial past and natural landscape remaining. Guide around the minas was very informative. Difficult to get round all the sites in one day.

This is a really interesting area for its geology, mining and social history. The museum is excellent, especially the reconstruction of the Roman mine, complete with the wheel the slaves worked at 100m depth to pump the water. The explanations are all in Spanish so...More
