I really want to rate this higher, but I just can't. There is potential here. The boat ride over is nice, and walking around the island can be fun. The problem is that the island is in bad need of general maintenance and trash collection. There are also a number of feral cats, some of whom do not look healthy, which really breaks my heart.

The boat ride was a nice break from walking, but the island needs to be cleaned up and repaired before opening or charging people to visit. Definitely could have skipped this.

It only took us 20 minutes by boat to reach this small island named for its shape, from above, it looks like the shape of a scorpion. On arrival we walked on a few feet up a hillside where we found a charming little outdoor cafe where we dined on fresh sea bass and a special local punch called Cazuelas, made from Oranges, Limes and Grapefruit with bits of fruit floating in a small bowl, with a splash of blue agave tequila. After lunch we strolled around the island and viewed a small lighthouse, some interesting scorpions carved into the rocky landscape and the ancient sacred Huichol Ceremonial Hut, recently decreed a protected site by order of the Mexican Government. Central to the ancient Huichol religion is the long journey to Wirakuta for gathering peyote over many months culminating with the peyote ceremony conducted by a Huichol Shaman.

My wife and I went here. We took a 1 hour boat experience. About 15 minutes to get to the island. Then we wandered the island and had a drink - about 45 minutes on the island - that's all we needed. We enjoyed the boat ride to the island and back to Chapala. The Island is very simple and somewhat run down. You can walk around exploring for no more than 20-30 minutes. There are several nice simple restaurants to enjoy a drink or basic food. And a few souvenirs.

Go to the jetty where the boats are tied up along the malecon. A boat ride is about 300 pesos. We like boat rides so take one in many places we go. It is a short ride. The boat man will wait for you. There are several restaurant/bars but we haven't tried one.

We love chapala, the people, the weather, the food. Everything! But do not fall for a boat ride to Isla De los Alacranes. Yuk! Very cheap (less than $500 pesos for the boat ride, regardless of the number of passengers). But I'd rather give the guy $40 pesos to NOT go. The island is trashy and just a tourist trap. Nothing worth seeing there. No vamos

Best thing about going to isla de los alacranes was the boat ride. Our family of four got a boat with another couple (we split cost). Ride cost was $470 to and from island. There is nothing to do other then eat, drink and rest (take a nap). They added a playground section which my kids loved!

I always thought that there had to be something fascinating to owith this island because it's a popular site to visit via small launches. You should visit, but don't set your sights too high. It's nothing more than a small strip of land with tiny restaurants/bars. That's it. Yes, you can look back at the mainland, but....

There isn't much on the island, however, it is a ceremonial worship place for the Huichol indigenous people of Jalisco and if you're lucky, you might see some on the island the day you visit.

I’m sure this little island used to be a beautiful place but now it is just horrible. There is trash everywhere. Old plastic chairs, plastic bottles, satellite dishes... It seems like nobody cares about the island. They just bring tourists there for a lot of money and try to sell them food, drinks and souvenirs. They don’t spend a single peso on keeping the island clean. This could be such a nice place but they don’t care.

Desde que sales tardarás alrededor de dos horas ida y regreso. No hay mucho por hacer ahí. Si tienes planeado comer en la isla tendrás que invertirle un poco mas de tiempo.
