See the lake

A must for first time visitor. Small vendor stalls along the lake, try the smelt fish as you walk or even take a boat ride on the lake. One of the best ways to see the lake

Just walking on the Chapala Malecon is wonderful! The fresh air, the light breeze, the sea birds, the kiosks, and the friendly people you meet makes you want to go back again, and again! We did not stay in a hotel but you can find many wonderful hotels in Chapala!

Wonderful lakeside walks with many varied restaurants nearby. Take a boat out to the island or just sit on a bench and take in the beautiful mountain views, the lake with a variety of water wildlife and the odd walking minstrel.

Even if you're not there for the sunset, or even for the food, it's a nice stroll along the lake, with interesting sculptures, short walks out a pier or jetty, and entertaining people-watching from the many park benches along the way. Some restaurants have touts out on the sidewalk who will try their best to get you to eat at... More

Many great souvenirs and hand made articles, some created on site as you observe. Check out the weavers.

Interesting and historic is what you will receive with a stroll down the malecon (lakefront/boardwalk). Plenty of shops open on the weekends. Fisherman and pelicans dominate on the quiet days. Beautiful fountain at the centre with a classic church across the street.

The Malecon (boardwalk) is loaded with a nice variety of things to do, lover's pier, religious shrines, music every 10 feet, restaurants and the buzz of life. It is right across from the gorgeous church , St Franics of Assisi, which is worth a visit in its own right.

A beautiful spot to visit. Great shopping, food, drinks and local culture. You can buy local crafts and food along your walk,or you can eat at one of the many restaurants along the way. As the day ends you can watch the sunset and listen to the street side musicians. Get a glimpse of Mexican culture,a nice way to spend the day.... More

Chapala has long been the haunt of artists and writers but is now better known a retirement destination for gringos. The lakeside malecon is full of fun stalls, some tourist kitsch, some more interesting items. The pier is picturesque and about 5:00pm the day we were there, some pole dancers swung down a vertiginous pole upside down in their local... More
