This is a memorial to those local people and their families who were killed in WWI. It has an interesting history as the memorial trees were planted along the main street by the families of the fallen. However, in 2001 the trees were declared dangerous...More

Legerwood Carved Memorial Trees are trees sculpted into World War One soldiers in Dorset, Tasmania. The 25 statues depict the fallen men they were planted for in 1918.A little out of the way but worth taking the time to visit.

An amazing collection of carved memorial tributes to 9 soldiers lost to the war. Nice little kiosk selling souvineers, coffee etc and clean toilets. Plenty of parking. Not to be missed. Free entry.

Just down off the main road was this array of tree trunks all mucked about with a chain saw. Must take some skill to carve all the features out with a burly great instrument like that. What a great attraction for the visiting public.

This was a truly unique and wonderful commemoration to Australian soldiers from this area. A fabulous wood carver and a great part of history conserved. You should definitely duck off the highway and see them.
