What do you hope for when you travel? To challenge yourself by navigating in a different culture, to step out of your everyday life and to expand your perspective? That's what Spain offered us but this experience was so far and above anything we could have hoped for. Clearly, the wines (and olive oil!) were delicious and I lugged home way too many bottles for my carry on to still be a carry on. But it was Jose and Yosena who transformed this visit into an experience that left the 5 of us in tears of appreciation for the miracle they have wrought. No one undertakes the restoration of an abandoned home and 350 year old cave unless they deeply love their mission. Bravo to the two of you and thank you for sharing this jewel with us. We will never forget our time with you and your hospitality (not to mention the delicious food!)

Jose and his wife are incredible. Everything about the wine tour was amazing. We spent most of the day with them, and could not have had a better time! You can tell they have put a lot of time and effort in to making their winery relaxing and enjoyable! By the time we left the winery our bellies were full and our spirits were happy! Highly recommend this winery and tour!

An excellent insight into the wines and history of Rioja, definitely worth booking.
Jose and his wife were wonderful hosts, they really know their stuff.
I think the tour was scheduled for 90 minutes, they were so welcoming that we stayed for about 3 hours!
The tour included a session to educate us about the area and its wines. Really interesting and nothing too heavy.
We tasted several wines (Viura was our particular favourite).
Jose's wife prepared some delicious dishes for lunch which we ate in the lovely garden adjoining the Bodega.
Bodega del Tesoro stocks some really good wines from local growers/wineries. We bought a few bottles and would have bought more but sadly the Ryanair baggage allowance didn't stretch to that :-(

We’ve been on wine tours in many areas of the world and this was by far our favorite since it was so much more than just basic tastings. Jose was a friendly and knowledgeable guide who took us into the vineyards and taught us all about Rioja wine production. We then had tastings at 3 very different tasting rooms which showcased the variety of wines produced in this area. The highlight of the tour was a visit to La Bodega del Tesoro, a 19th century bodega which Jose had restored. His passion for the culture and tradition of the location were apparent and you could feel the history of the building the minute you walked in the door. Much of the original equipment was there and we were served a fantastic lunch and wine tasting inside one of the big vats used to stomp grapes. If you’re in the area this is a don’t miss unique experience.

What a unique experience! We started the day with a drive through the countryside, where Jose was very knowledgeable about the area and all to do with the growing of vines. This lead to visiting a local wine festival which Jose thought we would enjoy. This showcased local wineries, set in a Medieval village. A really good experience! Jose then took us to his own winery, recently renovated with all original features. This was an amazing insight into the traditions of old. To follow, was a wonderful lunch cooked by his lovely wife, served in a very unique setting. Fantastic hospitality throughout the day, and an experience that I’m sure is not available on any other tour. If you are visiting the Rioja area, this tour is a must, you won’t be disappointed!!

We are still talking about our experience with Jose and his lovely wife. Five of us spent at least 4 hours here and enjoyed every minute. Jose took his time to explain the culture and heritage of wine making in this region. We toured the caves and had a tasting and then went back to eat a delicious dinner cooked by his wife. We ate and drank wine in the huge vat which was really cool. We were all moved by Jose's passion to preserve the local wine-making traditions and we wish him continued success. Highly recommend and a must do!

This was hands down our favorite adventure in Rioja. Jose was a wonderful guide and took us on an amazing sightseeing tour of the area and even into the vineyard to taste grapes right off the vine. He did not rush and answered all of our questions. We left knowing the basics of Rioja and it’s wine - which we came in knowing nothing of. The wineries that we visited were absolutely beautiful and the wine was delicious! Then the cherry on the sundae was the visit to LA bodega del Tesoro- a refinished 19th century bodega with wine vats still intact and in the floor. We ate a small snack on the patio in the beautiful sunny scenery. Then, We visited the wine cellar and tasted wine in the cellar right out of the barrel which was VERY cool! The meal was home cooked by Jose’s wife! She was so accommodating and made something different for me- someone who doesn’t eat red meat. The food was SO good - so fresh and amazing. We shared a bottle of wine with dinner and finished with fresh cheesecake. Overall, it was wonderful to support a small local business in the community. Jose was passionate about keeping the culture and tradition of small family owned Bodegas alive in Rioja and This showed through in everything he said and did! This is such a gem of an experience- not the usual touristy thing!

This experience goes beyond classic wine tasting tour. It starts with views from the small roads around the hills looking over the Ebro river, down mountains of sierra Cantabrica. Learn the aeras of Rioja, the wine, versus the administrative region, La Rioja, the provinces around. In fall, colors were magical. Hundreds of portion of lands are dedicated to vines in different styles. Learn the history from before the Roman empire. Above all it is about history of people and families thru generations, small and large vineyards, classic carrying traditional practices and new approaches while preserving the legacy of this land and its villages.

La Bodega del Tesoro - should be on the "must" list for enotourism. It visualizes a piece of spanish village wine history and that is very special. The owner Jose is an experienced guide for wine tourism and also a very genuine supporter of spanish wine traditions, green labels and small wine producers. Even more - all food is cooked by Jose's wife so check if you can have a chance to taste "comida casera" - a genuine spanish home food.
