The area of Gourdon Castle is excellent for many reasons. It is high on mountains with excellent and even scary views and roadside views. Amount of people with bicycles it hillarious, so pay attention. We found the place by visiting Grasse perfumery that showed a map here. Very lucky and very nice find by chance. Not lot of things to explore. Stay away if afraid of heights. :)

Visited in the late morning and were disappointed with the village, given it is so very small that it offers little apart from the wonderful views - hence the rating - a high wow factor, but a short lived experience. We actually planned on having lunch there, but found the top two restaurants closed for the day - Thursday - albeit the Terrace due to staffing issues. So we enjoyed the views and then went to Tourrettes-sur-Loup for lunch! (Note 1: the latter is delightful village with a 'loop' of medieval streets, and panoramic views - well worth a visit. Note 2: The castle is only open in the afternoon, so even less to do in the morning!)

This lovely village in tbe hautes alps offers a wonderful panoramic view, and wandering in the tiny streets is a peaceful relaxing moment away from the crowd on the beach. It can be very windy too which is great in summertime. Loved this spot off the beaten way.

My feelings are split between 3 and 4 scores for this destination but I put 4 just for breathtaking view over Provence. So the village by itself is not impressed me too much, we walked around whole village for about 40 minutes included stopped at few shops. We saw much more interesting small towns in Provence but Gourdon is famous by view over central terrasse. That is it. So if you are limit on time you can skip it.

The village and castle seem to rise up from the rocky canyon to balance on the edge of the ravine. A narrow rocky path is very tricky but if you're sure footed it'll take you about 60 mins to reach the village below. Gourdon has fabulous artisans including a glass and crystal maker. Loved this village and its castle.

This is a small mountain village not far from Grasse/Cannes and is at altitude right in the mountains. You will need a car to get here and I would strongly advise a sat nav as well. Just put in the town as a destination and the sat nav will take you right there. Also well sign posted as château de Gourdon. Free large carpark very close to village. Winding mountain road towards Gourdon give amazing veiws over the area and are an excellent drive. In Gourdon there are a few shops and restaurants and a few tourists shops and a small post office. The very small mountain village also has a castle that is guided tours only in the afternoon and start at 2.30pm onwards at hourly intervals. Only in French. The village is a fantastic veiw point over the area and Nice is easily seen. This is a very quaint village on a mountain top and is a hidden treasure.

Gourdon is a small village not far from Cannes. It's just one street with a stunning view on the valley. You can visit also the Castle.
The trip should be part of visiting some villages at this area.

The castle with its museum and antiques is closed for all practical purposes. You can make an appointement if you are are a group of 10 or more to see the gardens. What happened? This is a privately owned castle. The owner - a very good antiques dealer and collector - put all his collections in this museum and offered it to the public to see. A couple of years ago the local authorities suddenly stopped his plans (which already had cost him much in planning) for an exotic garden there (you can still see the layout of it, now with tomato plants and weeds). There were other things as well. He felt himself harassed by the local politicians, so much that he took the whole collection (millions of euros) to Paris and sold it on an auction there. Sad, but true.
That said, Gourdon is a beautiful place well worth a visit, also without the castle museum.

Gourdon Castle is about 30 km from Cannes. It was built in the 12th century and renovated in the 17th. It is a massive construction mixing styles from different centuries with defence towers on the corners. We visited the Castle museum, it is very small but has an interesting medieval collection of arms like swords, armours and halberds, as well as a few masterpieces of paintings. Then we had a walk in the garden that overlooks a very deep valley, the view is magnificient. Nothing here is very impressive by itself, but we enjoyed the whole package:mountains-valleys-old village-medieval castle and museum.
