About
The wines produced on the estate of Volpaia are among the best in the Chianti Classico area, and the cellars are well worth a visit.

Our group of 6 had reservations for a winery tour & tasting. We were joined by 3 others. Fabio gave a fantastic tour in perfect English, followed by a private tasting of 4 of their spectacular red wines. He shared details about the grapes, winemaking process, machinery, buildings, village & history. Very interesting! All the staff were very warm and friendly. If you come to Tuscany, you must seek this out! Beautiful setting.💕

All I can say is wow! What a beautiful location and property. It is truly like a fairytale. The grounds are spectacular. The staff are very pleasant, kind and attentive. The room was the perfect combination of modern and classic Italian. If you are flying into Florence, you must rent a car to get there, about an hour and 5 minutes. Be aware there are many, many, many turns on narrow roads to get to the top of the hill. Being from NY, we weren’t used to these kind of roads but it was absolutely worth it. There are 3 restaurants on site and they are all magnificent. We went to two other parts of Italy and this was our favorite food. The wine tour and tasting is a must. The history behind the village is fascinating and you get to see the ins and outs on how their wine is made. Oh, and the wine is out of this world. Shoutout to Francesca and Francessco who checked us in late at night without a problem. Don’t hesitate, book your stay here! You won’t regret it.

As part of an organized bike tour with Trek Travel, we had an exquisite lunch at this winery, hosted by the gracious owner, who was just an outstanding host. She served a delicous meal, accompanied by delicious wines. She told wonderful stories about the history of the small village and her winery that has been around since the 12th century. She inherited through family and she and her husband modernized it while keeping the unique features that go back in history. After lunch, we toured the facility and finished up in the tasting room where we were able to purchase some her great wines for shipping back to the US.

Lovely little village with great architecture. Car park at the bottom which allows you to walk up into the medieval village. We had a walk round the village which is very small, it only took 30minutes. Get there early to enjoy without the other tourists.

Another one of this “hidden” hamlets of Tuscany, a little off the beaten track, situated above Radda in Chianti. There are some paths to walk, which is nice but it takes most part of a day walking to Volpaia and back. Some small one-way lanes also leads to Volpaia and this time we made that choice. Volpaia is a small hamlet, it doesn’t take long to walk around in it. Beautiful, as is the views of the valley between Volpaia and Radda. Don’t miss out on their Chianti, Volpaia has a reputable wine house, or just sit outside the bar and look out over the landscape.

what to say about amazing castello di Volpaia!
We had the chance to stay for 2 nights and relax! Our wonderful suite was the best thing, huge comfy bed, a greta bathtub in the room, amazing view to the nature, and the bathroom was so good! Elegant and modern, stylish and authentic. We had everything we needed for a superb stay. The areas of the castello are just unique, the pools was so refreshing and relaxing, the breakfast at the terrace was delicious and with so many options to choose, the old stoned buildings are very beautiful and they take you to another area.
We had an unforgettable wine tasting and tour of the estate, by the beloved owner Federica, and we learned so many things about the local wines and of course the stunning Chianti Classico.
The position of Volpaia is ideal to visit all the Chianti villages, you can find trattorias, restaurants, cafes, in a 10-15 drive, and you will taste the whole Chianti region.
We can't wait to go back!!

Beautiful Tuscan hilltop hamlet with several good restaurants practically on your doorstep. Perfect location for driving around Chianti. Room was large and comfortable with old world charm. Great breakfast to start your day.

Me and my partner had the most amazing time here. We felt so welcomed and well taken care of all through out our stay. Francesco held a private wine tasting with tour of the grounds and we have now left with an even higher appreciation for wine and everything that goes on in the production of it. And the people behind it. On one of the nights we ate at the Osteria and we still talk about the food we had. The staff in the reception were all very friendly and helpful. I haven’t even mentioned how beautiful the hotel was with view over gorgeous landscape. We are truly thankful for our stay and would love to come back again.

It is truly amazing how they were able to maintain historic structures of all the buildings and yet turn it into a full functioning winery. Possibly the most unique winery setup you may see in all of Tuscany. A good time had by all and afterwords we enjoyed a perfect meal with Paola at Bar-Ucci

I've visited plenty of wineries in the new world (Napa) and in the Old wolrd (especially France) but nothing has ever been close to the experience of Volpaia. This flly restored middle ages village hosts the most incredible cellars. Divided in different buildings of the old town you pass from a 12th century curch where it's located the vinification cellar to the old noble house where you find the aging facilities. Volpaia also has an olive crusher and a vinegar making facility (we didn't visit this last one). Price is higher than others (around 15 euros) but it's worth every penny of it. We visited the cellars the olive crushing facility (it was working in November and the oil was unbelievable) and had a full tasting of the wines accompanied by bruschetta and pecorino cheese.

We are staying in Florence. Would you be able to pick up and drop off or how do you recommend transportation? How much is the cooking class? Is it available May 25 in the afternoon for 2 people? Also, what dishes do you cook in the cooking class?

I was at the restaurant first in 1999 and later in 2005 and had a most memorable food and welcoming experience. Could you tell me if Carolina is still associated with the restaurant. I have her card and photos of us enjoying a wonderful lunch. My husband and I plan to return in October of this year. I could not come to Italy and not visit your beautiful town. A photo of your winery is on the wall of our home. I will bring it with me when I come, in October.
