If you really love untouched countryside, I can only recommend couple days in Borovoe Natural park. We started with visiting Burabay village Museum and Tourist shop, there you can purchase a map of the area (400 KZT), which is good for general orientation in the parkbut not very precise.
It is OK to visit Blue gulf, but anywhere further you do not meet nearly anybody and can enjoy lakes and large pine forrest. Paths are not well marked (usually red stripe on the tree trunk), but you can walk anywhere, terrain is not demanding. The only careful orientation is needed for walking on Kokshetaw mountain. We did not see any marks, but we followed the litter and ended below the rocky wall impossible to be climb without climbing geer. However, if you pay attention, you can walk uphill easily and enjoy view over the beautifull landscape with lakes, pine forrest and no civilization. Except from walking, we loved swimming in the untouched lakes, both Burabaj and Large Schebasche, with views on the surrounding mountains. Considering the beauty of the lakes and cleanliness of water, it is a pity that Kazachs are not swimming nation.
For walking in the Burabay Park you need good shoes but do not heavy boots at all neither any other tourist equipment. Entrance fee is 200 KZT per person per day.
There is some infrastructure around village, therefore you can purchase some food and water but only on one or two places. You can either try excelent kumys or shubat in local restaurant!
Regarding staying overnite, we were camping in the forest (no camping site and no creeks, you need to carry water for cooking) but I am not sure wheter it is allowed or not. However, the prices of the civilized accomodation are supposed to be really high.
You can get there by (e.g. Hispanian) train from Astana (stop Kurort Borovoe in Schuchinsk town) or use shared taxi from Astana (carpark next railway station, 2000 KZT per person, ends in Schuchinsk town either, lasts 2,5 hour, excellent motorway with no traffic jam), then follow by taxi to Burabay village (2000 KZT per 3 people) or by local bus (marshrootka, lasts 30 minutes, 150 KZT, every half an hour, tickets available in the bus).

Truly, the real gems have to be pursued and hunted. I travelled for more than 20 hours by an old bus going through desolate lands and in the middle of it questioning myself the whole time if it would be worth it but this trip proved the adage that goes "It's the journey and not the destination that counts" wrong. The adventure of traveling alone to a new place and not speaking the local language made the journey even more exciting but it is the sights I have seen that really floored me. I was totally humbled by the sights that greeted me in Burabay/Borovoe. It was the balm that soothed all my misforgivings and frustrations in Kazakhstan and the tape that sealed all the good memories I have had in this country of ironies. Most of all, I've seen God's guiding hand during the trip. The place was just pure, unspoiled nature. The lakes nestled in mountains have very calming effect on the soul, mystic so to speak. Burabay will always hold a spell for me and it is a place I would definitely go back to one day.

A quiet place in the springtime with clear, untouched nature. Visiting the Tourist Centre is a must in order to get information on your possibilities, hire a tourist guide e.g. up to the Sinyukha mountain. It's affordable for anyone.

Unfortunately, we were there in July when everyone else wanted to be there. Totally overcrowded. But the lake is beautiful, and the views from the top were just amazing. Town itself is worth nothing. Maybe the experience would have been better if I had seen it in May or June.

Gorgeous place, tourist friendly. Walking paths along the lake Borovoye-parallel with the auto road and cycling path. Various hiking options on route.
The distance from Shchuchinsk to the resort Burabay is about 20 km.
Start at Ablai Khan's Clearing and walk towards burabay-about 6 km. It is a very easy and pleasant walk.
Beach option on route as well as many possibilities to rent a boat and spend some time on the lake.

This is a nice natural park reserve with pine forests, trekking routes, lakes. Nature at it's finest. If you want to escape the pollution of the city and enjoy a couple of relaxing days, horse riding, fine bio food, this is the place to be. Enjoy!

Definitely plan to visit this beautiful piece of nature. Just have a comfortable shoes to climb the mountain (which is 10-15 min process and not easy climbing). If not a trip from Nur-Sultan, stay at luxury resort Rixos Borovoe, nearby. Pleasant, beautiful, with relaxing atmosphere and nice service.

A lovely scenic nature park about 260 kms out of Astana. Really worth a visit and is a day trip.
Lovely greenery, fauna and animals in the forest like Elk, Deer, Wolf , Wild boar , Lynx. Birds you can spot are Mallard, Gray Duck, Gogol Partridge etc. Lovely lakes big and small in the area. Also souvenir shops and Eagle Trainers.
Nice quaint restaurants in the area.
Recommended trip for nature lovers. My guide from Indy Guide Damka was good and took me around safely and I recommend him

I found out about this place one day before taking a bus from Kurgan to Astana. Because of bad weather forecast, I wasn't sure, but I decided to just get off the bus in Shchuchinsk and hitchhike the last 25 km, to spend one night in this village.

I went for a walk in the national park (strangely only pedestrians pay admission, cars are waived through by the guard). Absolutely gorgeous place.

Just a word of advice: only try to climb the Staraya Sestra mountain if you're absolutely sure of your condition and climbing skills, especially the final bit.

A must-visit place here in North Kazakhstan. Peaceful ,serene and simply a place for those who want to commune with nature. Accomodations from houses, hotels and lodges may be booked in advance. I have never seen so many pine trees! It is just sad that some people vandalized the rock formations.
