Visiting Gjogv has been a highlight of our trip ! The gorge is beautiful, as is the village around which we were able to stroll peacefully. Very few other folks were around, which made for a very tranquil visit.
There were many puffins and other seabirds in the cliffs and flying about. We were able to sit and watch them for quite a long period, undisturbed.

I was lucky to see a small concert here in the Cleft.
Some local guys played some music for visitors. I could hear the sound far from the climbing area.
Plus it began to change from cloudy to sunny!
You can enjoy the cleft on the benches of the cafe.

Fantastic village with great views. Definitely worth a visit when sightseeing and driving around Faroes. The road to the village is already very scenic but once you approach the village the views are incredible. We also went up to the cliff. The pathway is very steep, muddy and slippery. We visited in August and despite sunny day the good hiking shoes and lots of caution were necessary. Also, please be aware that walking up the cliff you need to pay either by cash or bank transfer as you are stepping into private land. Also, be respectful to that! The owners built some wooden stairs for some parts of the hike but later it is muddy and narrow. Still worth to go - the views from the hill are amazing and it is definitely worth it! But make your own judgment as you will walk very close to the cliff edge and in more difficult weather conditions this walk will be much different than in the sunny weather. Still - I think this is my favourite place and hike in Faroe Islands <3

We drove by the village Eiđi and on the drive to Gjógv we could again see the Giant and the Witch from a different view. Gjógv was beautiful. We sat on Mary's bench as well as did o short hike up on the hill, and on our way we saw puffins close by, so you might see them here too! Just look at the steep cliffs where they nest. I've heard there are other places to see puffins too though.

You will probably not be able to be very much closer on cliffs and birds as when you climb the stairs on the western side of the cleft. We felt completely safe even when walking less than 1 meter from the cliff edge. And could look down on restless birds.

During 5 days at Faroe islands, this was one of the most inspiring spots, we have seen. The village in itself is not very special, but the nature around and the trip to the place is really really something. Combined with Saksun this is one of the places that makes it worthwhile to go to the Faroe islands.
I have seen many places around the world so far, but this is one of those areas that impresses me the most. Take a hike up the hillside and along the cliffs to get the full view.

My husband questioned why we were driving to see Gjogv. The drive to the village (roads are well paved but very steep and narrow in places) was scary in the partial fog with few options to turn around. I convinced him it was a village and view I’d seen on U Tube that was worth the white knuckle drive. Its a picturesque village with a church, a hike and a viewing perch with “Mary’s Bench” from which one could look at stunning views of Kalsoy island.

Very beautiful place with its natural harbour in a deep cleft - The slide leadint to and from the harbour tells a tale of tough conditions, not only in terms of weather, but also in terms of the people, living their lives out of this place.
The colours are stunning. The views mesmerizing. And the nature just breathtaking.

Very nice to stroll around the area after we hiked for some hours. It is a small cafe nearby. Grab a coffee and just relax. Enjoy the view and the smell from the sea.
