Our host at Villa Veronika told us about this park as he had led trips here to see the bears and surrounding nature. Today we visited Rakov Skocjan on our 200 km drive from Kocevje to Koper, turning off the main road after Cerknica. The narrow gravel/sand lane curves through the heavy forest with parking at several trail heads with sign guides focusing on the Rak River. Our goal was to see it disappear in Weaver’s cave (Tkalca jama) in the deep ravine. This viewpoint had several information points with English.

You need time and patience. Visit Cerkniško jezero and places around it early in the morning, at noon and in the evening. It is interesting all the year round. Walk, use your bike and sometimes a rowing boat. Take a binocular, a camera and good boots. Intermittent lake is central attraction, some brooks and caves are interesting, too. Look at trees of all kinds, birds and other animals from bees, fish to bears (jus for very lucky visitors).

We visited the park and the caves, WOW, the little stone bridge was really amazing! We walked as well to the big one, but the first, including walking into the different caves was more interesting. The path is really easy and clean, perfect for a family trip. And totally free.

We visited Rakov Skocjan near Cerknica lake. It's really nice and easy walk with some amazing nature sights. Maybe missing some info sign on main road, but path if very nice all the time in the forest shadow on the river bank . Unfortunally storm is came when we arrive on Cerknica lake.

The Notranjski Regijski Park is probably a underrated gem in Slovenia. There is so much to see in this area, there are almost no tourists and the people are really friendly.

We toured this park while in Slovenia and staying with friends whom live in Cerknica. We spent the day here walking through the caves and trails; it was quite spectacular! We loved the serenity of this area; and enjoyed that it was not touristy and was much quieter than we anticipated.
We would definitely return and highly recommend!

We've bene told there were 90% chance to see the bear, but:
- we found by the hunters that there are just 3 bears (one is just 8kg so they all group possibly) and we where 2 couples in 2 different places making impossible for some to see them (hope good for the others)
-the only animal we saw was the hunter's dog and some little birds far away
-we take the car after the view and we see at the first village 5 deers and 1 brock (make me think they don't even know where animals actually are)
- 120€ for staying 4 hours in silence in a oven in the middle of the wood.
- we had the chance to have an other bear-watching at 60€, like anybody had the time and the will to repeat this.

Take your time to walk around, soak up the atmosphere and discover the green karst. I hiked from Bloško Jezero to Slivnica, Cerknica and Rakov Skočjan. Even though it was raining, cloudy and cold, I enjoyed it a lot. To me it's a good thing that the places are not too crowded, that the people who offer tours and other tourism ˝attractions˝ are passionate and want to show you the real thing. They share what inspires them and that is how I got to appreciate this region more and more. Definitely worth a visit, but again take your time, because there is more than a spectular lake or a breath taking view. Notranjski Regijski Park is a natural beauty, interesting phenomomens, lovely legends and a rich history.

Cerknica and villages around don’t know what they have and can offer with interesting lake, Carst, different kinds of birds. Nature is perfect and flower or bird experts will really enjoy. For all other visitors it is less interesting. You can find one average place in Dolenje Jezero (Jezerski Hram) with interesting model of the lake and a local museum. Entrance fee is not cheap. You can try to find a man who can drive you around with an interesting wooden boat (no fixed timetable or price). Promotion in newspapers for Hiša izročila is just promotion without real service for tourists. It is more for boy scouts and when you order some food, it is expensive. Bring your own food and water, walk around or use your bicycle and you will be satisfied.
