We spent a few hours wondering through Old Phuket Town. We were surprised in a good way by what we discovered. The old town has many colourful buildings and has a real European village feel. It also has many great cafes where you can sit down and relax and enjoy a decent cup of coffee. There are also lots of souvenir and clothing shops.
The Sino European architecture and many murals lends itself to lots of great photo opportunities!

We spent the morning and early afternoon in Old Phuket Town. There are some really photogenic streets with lovely architecture and murals, and a lot of small bespoke shops with souvenirs, small handmade goods and clothing. The shop owners are not at all pushy and very polite which was a nice change from Penang!

The biggest surprise to us was the number of coffee shops with varying themes and aesthetics! We visited 3 during our time in the area - Bookhemians, Cafe Roof and Sri The Shophouse. I’d recommend all 3 and wish we could’ve visited more!

We also visited the Thai Hua Museum which was pretty cheap to enter but not really our sort of thing.

All in all we had a good time but would not recommend visiting for more than a few hours.

SinoEuropean style architecture and nice pastel colours are the highlights here. Some nice photo opportunities and lots of side streets to explore.

Cute cafes and restaurants, gift shops, markets etc.   It's a really pleasant walkable place. Currently a ghost town

What a pleasant surprise, a world away from the sun and beaches.

Phuket old town is thriving.

Visited the Thai Hua museum - learnt about the pioneer Chinese community who came to Phuket because of tin mining, their strong spirit and community bonds. Mostly Hokkiens from China - they came through Penang. The museum was an old school they built, very informative on history and culture.

They left their mark - the architecture of the shophouses and the food are so much like Penang Peranakan.

Plenty good Nonya style food with Thai influence, and hipster cafes all around.

We spent an afternoon exploring Old Phuket Town, it was OK I guess. One street had very nice Old World Architecture which was quite striking. The rest however was a bit Ho Hum.

The old town is beautifully preserved and the old Chinese shop houses are like the ones in Georgetown, I was to discover that many of the Chinese inhabitants originally came from Penang. Although there is a large element of gentrification the atmosphere has remained. The walking street is very. very good with lots of choice - food, knick knacks - whatever and one of the best street musicians I have heard playing Dire Straits songs! Not to be missed.

It’s a lovely little town with narrow colourful shophouses on either side of the road. Quaint little cafes line the streets and the atmosphere is friendly and fun. Shops are very touristy and don’t have much to offer but the ambiance is great for a day out.

It’s a different section of Thailand …Portuguese built structures…and mainly Chinese locals (where brought by the Portuguese to mine tin back in the day)

Alot of restaurants and “flea market” shopping….if you’re into that.
