Drini Beach
What people are saying
Not for swimming and snorkeling

The road to Drini Beach is well maintained with the usual traffic. We visited end of July 2019 on a weekday and it took us 1 hour 45 minutes. We were charged entrance fees 10k/pp at the gate and parking fee by the parking attendant 5k/car. Given it was a weekday, the beach was quiet with few visitors and plenty of parking. The beach is relatively clean, the locals have done their best to keep it such, unfortunately still too many cigarette butts despite their efforts. This is visitors fault for not using the provided garbage bins, there is only so much the locals can do. Great views for photo opps. The sand is beautiful light golden brown, coarse but comfortable. Drini Island provides protection against the strong current and crashing waves. Between the beach and the island, the water is calm and knee-high, albeit the current at high tide. The 2 star is because this is not a swimming or snorkeling beach, despite many websites or bloggers review. You can splash around by the water's edge, but nothing further as the sea bed is rocky and can be quite painful without water shoes. The 'promoted' snorkelling area is at least 100m from the beach and is dangerous at high tide, accessible only at low tide which is early morning to 9 am and again from 2 pm onwards. I did snorkel at low tide and found pitiful few fish and even fewer corals, almost none. If you are here for selfies and the beach, you will love this place. If you are here to swim & snorkel, you will hate the place.

I came here back in the days it was just discovered by so many travel websites. You can count people with your hand fingers, not crowded at all. Then I came back years afte, now it is very crowded. There is a small island nearby the main beach which makes it looking very beautiful. Go hike there and you'll find the best view for photos!

Visit the beach on Eid Fitri holiday, the beach is nice, easy to clean white sands, and the crowd just fair. There is small local resto around with good taste. They also provide a free toilet for their customers. The price of the restaurant is medium. I bring my toddler and he loves playing sands there. The waves quite big compared to Sepanjang Beach, but considering the local resto quality, the toilet cleanliness and also the crowd, I might prefer Drini than Sepanjang Beach. Please come early in the morning or in the evening to avoid the bad impact of overwhelming sunscreen.

Drini is one of the beach in Gunung Kidul Jogjakarta Province. (among them are Baron, Krakal, Indrayanti, Kukup). When you enter the area of those beaches, the sign will lead you to all those beaches. The People of Java like to go to there because of their wonderful view along the Hindian Ocean. Those are in the south part of Java Island. Drini is save for children because they can play in the water without afraid of sweeping away by the big waves of Hindian Ocean. The water is clean and fresh and the sand is white. Just perfect for family. While the children playing in the water the parents can stay in the bungalow built by the small restaurant. Just keep yourself in the shady place. Perfect!

It was an independence day when we visit this beach. Actually there's some invitations from the relatives who has restaurant in here. Later on i will upload all food the we had here. Beside a lot of restaurant there are some fish market also in here. Can buy some fresh/unfresh or even the fried one.

This Drini beach have a Drini island also, where people can come across to the island if the level of water is not too high.

I only see from far for the island. My interest at that time is many people come to celebrate the independence day here. They have a lot of games in the beach.

It's a small and nice beach with white sands. The water is clean, but be careful not to swim too far from the beach. It also has a small island to explore but need to pay IDR 2000/person. In fact, you need to pay IDR 2000 for each area that you want to visit or take pics. Even for a small hill that you can cross to other beaches.
Btw, this beach also serves as a little harbor for fishermen, so you can have fresh fish as lunch.

They don't have any sport activities there. It is just like a virgin beach with less visitors, the beach is clean from rubbish / sellers.

I went there at school term break holiday but there was a few visitors only who swim at the beach.

It is better u to bring ur own food. When we got there, so many restaurants were closed. We only bought coconut and there are so many flies around. The coconut taste good cost 15-20K.

Beware of rainy season because u ain't watch the sunset.

When u get back to the town, I saw the scenery from Gunung kidul is really nice. U can see the whole town at night with so many lights.
