- AliceAnatoleIsland of Malta, Malta8 contributionsWalking around the long mellieha beachSuperb beach, large and well maintained. We came here for several hours after being disappointed with a beach in a nearby town. We had a sandwich but it is important to note that there are several restaurants and cafes close to the beach. Unfortunately it was not yet the season to be able to swim in this clear waterVisited February 2023Written 1 March 2023
- Barbara236London, United Kingdom20 contributionsBEST SANDY BEACH IN MALTA!We tried different beaches in Malta and Melieha is the best! Quite basic but the water is unbelievably crystal clear! You can rent a sunbed and umbrella for a great price and they also have a few beach bars/restaurants. You can also do water sports or just chill on the beach. Food is really nice and so are the drinks! We loved it so much we kept coming back.Visited June 2023Written 30 June 2023
- kateandchrislongYork, United Kingdom6 contributionsBeautiful beach, lots of sunbeds.Travelled to Mellieha beach from Sliema on the 222 bus that cost 2 Euro for the 50 min journey. The beach is wide and has plenty of sun-beds. 2 sun-beds and and umbrella cost 15 Euro for the day. You can walk far out into the sea before it reaches any depth so perfect for anyone with young children. The Cafe on the beach is reasonable, with a good selection of ice creams, drinks and hot food. Starbucks is just a two min walk away with Toilet facilities. Buses are every 10 mins back to St Paul’s bay/ st Julian’s/ sliema. Perfect day out on a long sandy beach.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 July 2023
- Luke-n-LauraBSt. Helier, United Kingdom529 contributionsLovely but commercialA lovely beach, nice safe areas to swim in the warm waters, lifeguarded too and on the bus route. A few cafes and such within reasonable distance, my only gripe is by how it is just taken over by companies selling beds and umbrellas etc, there is barely space left. I find that crazy, however, they're always busy so maybe it is just me? Who knows, worth going either way as malta is not the most sandy of venues!Visited August 2023Travelled with familyWritten 19 August 2023

- CanaryBoy27 contributionsNice beach with clear and calm waterA nice beach area but extremely busy one. Loads and loads of beds and umbrellas which in a way spoil what could be a lovely area. Cost of two beds and an umbrella 15 euros for the day and it didn't matter what time of day it was it was still 15 euros to have. the water was very shallow which eventually went above you shoulders. No need to take snorkels there as very few fish around but the water had a very sandy bottom. Several food places with a couple of upmarket restaurants at either end of the beach.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 September 2023

Very small area and cannot walk along the bay in full barefoot due to rocky sections. Construction work on road at end of beach making a seafront walk dangerous! No area set aside for pedestrians! Small areas of sand populated by businesses hiring out sunbeds and umbrellas. Beach cafes and restaurants serving mostly unhealthy foods.... just not that special. Water is clear and sun was perfect temperature.

Nice beach but quite crowded as small in the sandy bits. The rest was very barren and rocky. Sea lovely and great views!

We have just returned from a 4 day holiday, staying at the Maritim Antonine, our break was intended to be a beach chill, however the beach was a massive let down. There were cigarette ends everywhere and items discarded near to the beach, old parasol, sun lounger. It made the beach feel dirty and neglected. Our beach chill changed to a site seeing holiday instead, not the intended purpose of the holiday. There's a derelict hotel overlooking the beach which is an eyesore. There's a community of immigrants living in containers overlooking the beach, great location for those occupants, but again an eyesore. If your not fussy about the condition of the beach, you might enjoy the setting, unfortunately we've experienced lots of beautiful beaches in our 40 years of travelling, this did not meet our expectations or approval. This is the first time we have reported back on the quality of a beach.

Lovely Sandy beach, very child friendly with lifeguard on duty. Cost to hire sunbeds and umbrellas are very reasonable. As with most places there are beach sellers but they are not pushy.

Small sandy beach which is delightful as most of the bay has small rocky beaches, which are fabulous & not over crowded.Anyways this beach was far too crowded,it lacked that exquisite mediterranean feel.Too may sunbeds so close together, overcrowded,I guess because of the space. The water close to the beach is very warm & gets 'typically mediterranean' nice & cold the further you go.

Safe shallow water for kids, brilliant inflatable assault course and options for food/drink. Lots of space for lounging without having to pay for deckchairs/umbrellas (easily available if needed though).
Tip would be to go in evening when the crowds have gone for a quiet drink/swim.

Are there any nearby ice cream parlours nearby? Also, are there any shops that sell water equipment like noodle floats etc?
Thanks.

Plenty of shops sell ice cream ie in tubs and lollies as does the supermarket. There are also lots of outlets down near and on the beach that sell ice cream lollies and by the scoop in cones etc.
Not sure what a noodle float is but the dive shops sell a good range of floats for kids learning to swim and for snorkelling as do many shops and the supermarket.

Hi your in a great location for June
on the beach you will find kiosks everywhere they have food drink ice cream etc ..... but they are more like a burgers and chips kind of place
there is a place called munchies it’s a little further down towards the end of the beach a big white building literally on the beach
Also Tramun Taghna is a lovely place and the view is great it’s on the corner you will have to walk past it to get to the beach
Enjoy your time when you arrive :)
