About
The National Wine Museum occupies the old winery that was built in 1896 by Jose Eduardo Raposo Magalhaes to develop wine production in the region. A distinguished native of Alcobaca, he, more than anyone, was responsible for the progresso and reputation achieved by wine-growing in the town. He used the latest technology to build his winery and we can still see it today.

An interesting museum with wonderful exhibitions overall but the visit cannot be called Guided as the guy in charge did not give us any information , nor any explanations , he was just there ... the visit lasted 40 mn instead of 1 H , he xas clearly in a rush to end the day (we arrived just before 5PM ) For the tasting : it is the same , he just pours wine in a glass and does not say a word , he anwsers questions but clearly does not know the products , it a shame because the museum is really wrth seeing but the 'guide' spoils' the whole thing really.

My wife Louise and I had the most enjoyable afternoon at this wine museum. We were so well looked after the by lovely caretaker Isabel for the afternoon.

We learned a lot about the history of wine not just in the Alcobaca region but the development of wine throughout Portugal and it's worldwide sale.

Isabel was worried about her use of English which says a lot as it is us who were imposing our language onto the native speakers of Portugues.

In any case Isabel need not worry, her humor, knowledge and kindness were very clear to see.
Really enjoyed the wine tasting at the end:)

Highly recommend visiting this museum to all wine lovers which surely are most visitors to the beautiful Portugal

On the surface it may not be impressive, but the substance of its collection of wine production equipment, infrastucture, artifacts and memorabilia is absolutely astonishing. The guided tour was entertaining and informative - a great learning experience for wine enthusiasts and wine professionals alike.

We struck it lucky and arrived on a day of free admission coinciding with a ceramics exposition that was happening in town. That stroke of good fortune notwithstanding, this experience is worth the admission price of 3.60 euros.

This is a great collection, and whilst it could do with some curatorial love, the guided tour meant that you didn't have to wade through any bad interps. Our guide was personable and passionate, and you couldn't ask for more.

At the end there is a wine tasting, and a chance to take home some of the great wines of the Alcobaça region.

We were also fortunate that there was an exhibition of a local photographer on in one of the buildings when we visited. An added bonus and I think it is up until the end of June.

You have to have a guided tour, which was very good and interesting, and tells of the history of the adega, the exhibits are fascinating. We would have liked the time to look at the exhibits a little more but were moved along quite quickly, it did take an hour anyway; if we go again with other visitors we will book ahead as it seems we should have been there 'on the hour'. If you have trouble with stairs, it could be a problem.
Recommend a visit, well worth it.

Guided tour was informative and well done. All aspects of technology and production were covered. Tasting of four wines at end was a great conclusion.

We spent a couple of hours here, with a very informative guide who spoke excellent English, and learned a lot. If you're in the area, and at all interested in wine, this museum is well worth a visit.

Very good . I loved it, very complete. It was done with a guide and it was different, she explained everything. Our guide was spectacular, very friendly and attentive. And for those who like wine, there is a museum not to be missed, the largest in the country. Then at the end there is a wine tasting. I recommend it. It's free on Sunday mornings.
